All these earnest folks asking for apologies don't understand it is 2016

Lie means nothing. Fact means nothing. Shame means nothing. Guilt means nothing. Integrity means nothing.Racist means nothing. Abuse means nothing. None of these words have a definition anymore. The Rs have taken words and made them obsolete. We are in unchartered territory.

1. Doesn't mean we let them slide and get away with those lies, 2016 or not. How will they otherwise

learn if they're not confronted?

Republicans only get away with lies and more lies that, repeated, suddenly become the truth because of a lax media that only appear to hold Democrats to account. Now that the media are asking for apologies of Republicans - and deserved apologies for our President and the American people, by the way - this should be commended, not dismissed.

I, for one, am happy that the media are finally slapping Don-the-Con down - and his lying surrogates in the process.

Why aren't you?

2. "Win" is the only word that matters to the Repugs

Win by any means possible -- voter suppression, suggest the assassination of your opponent, dominate the 24/7 news cycle with your bullshit. Just win.

..into uncharted waters (so to speak), unchartered and uncharted are kinda similar.

I work at a furniture store, and I bristle at a similar vocab mix-up. People come in looking for unfinished furniture (which we don't have), but instead of asking if we have any unfinished they ask if we have any unfurnished furniture.

Which is a question I don't even know how to answer.

Unfurnished furniture. Quite the conundrum as to how to respond, I bet.

And for the record I wouldn't have bothered to mention the vocabulary slip in the OP, but s/he was after all writing about how words matter, and I also detected just a wee sliver of concern that I wanted to be sure to alleviate.

5. Make asking for an apology the story. The nut needs to be called out.

In my opinion they need to go further and ask him to step down. It's one thing to be incompetent, it's quite another to incite violence almost every day against a group of people or one person. He is sick and needs to be taken off the world stage immediately.

7. You're right. I think that instead of asking for an apology, we should ask for his arrest.

On charges of incitement to violence. But the New York Times, among others, has participated vigorously in the debasement of the language. It's crucial to their self image to pose as the wise fatherly gray eminence. They have lost the capacity to dial 911.
