Republicans may want Hispanics, but never African Americans

Isn't this disgusting?

"ANYONE BUT BLACKS" should be their motto.

I realize they think that Hispanics are somehow an easier "get," since some are somewhat socially conservative. But the thing is, many African Americans are socially conservative as well--regular churchgoers, and many till now have opposed gay marriage.

Yet the Republicans can't even be bothered with them. In fact, their entire thinking seems to be devoted to keeping African Americans shut out.

Mind you, it's ok with me if they want to think this way. So long as they continue to think in terms of pitting groups against each other, then they will continue to lose.

But I do wish that the pundits who are currently discussing Republican strategies would take more note of this.

It is disgusting. Someone on another thread said that it isn't about economics or religious morals, it's about dominance and maintaining white privilege. They will try to dupe the Hispanic voters into helping elect them and then do nothing for them. They know they can't dupe AAs.

They've been running on repealing Roe v Wade for 40 years, and have had large majorities several times, yet never did so.

Why is that? Because it's election day rhetoric, that's all. My cynical side says that any outreach to Hispanics will be the same.

The African Americans intimidate them! The republicans let a few in but the only the ones who are far right and would be a threat to their base!

blacks are too smart take up with a party that does NOT have the best interest of the masses in mind.

Blacks are too smart to take up with a party full of white supremacists.

Remember when Bush was running for president, and they tried to court blacks? Well they gave up when they found out blacks are too smart to vote for the party of white supremacists.

...let's see if I can take a swing at this. It's based on the fact that most Hispanics are Roman Catholic and thus must be both against gay marriage/rights and abortion. It's assumed that the power of the church will override the decades of hatred directed at most Hispanic groups by the rushpublicans. Also, I don't think the leaders understand the distinction between the various Hispanic communities around the country...just cause they all speak Spanish doesn't mean they think or vote alike. Mexicans...the largest group surely are not Cubans and never confuse the two. Thus why I chuckle when I hear the rushpublican "braintrust" figure Marco Rubio...of Cuban heritage (no, he's not an immigrant like he claimed) isn't going to sweep 'em off their feet in the Colonia of Texas.

There's no attempt at outreach to African-Americans due to the racist nature of today's rushpublicans. A look at the language and dogwhistles aimed at President Obama in the past campaign demonstrates how ingrained this racism is...so blatant it's not even masked anymore. Plus it's only sure to continue as long as blowhards on hate radio and Bullshit Mountain know it means ratings and attention. The tail will continue to wag the dog.

Cheers...

Good Morning! Hey, I really like that term "rushpublican" may I use it? That phrase fits that silly, uninformed and bias party to a tee. As an African American woman, a born again one I might add, it does not bother me in the least that a bunch of ignorant, racist, and power hunger white folks do not try and persuade me that they "care" for me...I could care less because I know from history that they would be lying. What is far more important to me is how they try to distort and obstruct policies which would be beneficial to all Americans, not just whites, Blacks, Hispanics, Latinos, etc. ALL AMERICANS! If Hispanics fall for their "I love you now" nonsense, then that will be them. Arabs thought they were loved by them at one time also, and all it took was a FEW filthy Arab men and their hate, to turn white people (mostly republican white men) against the whole Arab AMERICAN community. Rushpublicans will only embrace Hispanics because they want their votes, the hatred, racism, and bigotry will still linger in the darkness of their filthy, selfish hearts.

You are so right...you don't wipe away decades of racism...the "Southern Strategy" that began under Nixon following the passing of the Civil Rights Act (that the Roberts Court may now try to wipe away). It shames me that after all these years we're still facing a minority that has found its way into power that still promotes discrimination and inclusion...drawing themselves into a tighter and tighter cocoon...and then expect to change things overnight.

What's more glaring is how systemic racism has been bred into the modern rushpublican party that they can't see how blatant and obvious it is. When I pointed it out to a teabagger "buddy" I was called a "racist". The indoctrination is deep.

Thank you so much for the kind words and welcome to DU! Your voice is both welcome and appreciated here

Cheers...

then that makes their entire southern strategy moot. THere is a reason the south overwhelmingly votes Republican while going against their economic issue. The only problem with that is, most Hispanics in this country mirror African-Americans socio-economically. So basically, any real attempt to woo Hispanic voters would be to inact policies that are benificial to both groups; the working poor and the middle class among them.

Also, the Hispanic population is increasing while the Black population remains static. GWB really was the one who allowed the borders to be so wide open to get cheaper labor for big corp, and now Republicans have a "Hispanic Problem."

The GOP needs the Blacks to exist (at least in their mindset) as a racial underclass in order to soothe the feelings of its loser base who genuinely believe themselves to be "the makers" while they're gorging themselves on every govt handout available.

We've got this cinched.

While they're going around yelling at each other about what percentage of which ethnic group they need to "capture," they are just alienating that group. Nobody wants to be reduced to a demographic, much less a percent of a demographic.

They really think it's that simple, that they can pander a little bit to people they very plainly don't understand on any level, they can secure some number, and then stop because it's all good. And the harder they try, the worse it'll be for them.

problem one in this "plan," is they are treating 'hispanic' as some monolithic group that can be courted just by offering... Shit, I don't even want to imagine what the Republicans are planning to offer, I get embarrassed just thinking about the possibilities.

in the 47% tape Mitt Romney talked about a black woman who came up to him after an event and said, "after today I might consider voting for you." Mitt Romney said his first thought was "oh god what have I done wrong to get her support?"

He never wanted that black woman to support him. And by extension he never wanted any black women to support him. Because if Whoopie Goldberg is not good enough for him. Then I know my black vote would not matter to him at all.

They are still running the Southern Strategy!!!! Leave them BE!!!!!!! they have not figured out this isn't a winning Strategy for them It used to work. It is outdated. Remember who you are talking about. Conservative Government Welfare Queens who only want free stuff like labor and subsidies, who refuse to take responsibility for themselves and who are looking for a Government handout. They have a sense of entitlement that ordained their footsteps to the Whitehouse no matter if they send a LIAR (Romney) to do it!!!!! Anyone who really thinks these SOB's have learned anything, or trust them with anything, is as Fucking crazy as the Republicans are!!!!!!! And you are right about Black Folk being along the Conservative meme, but look who indoctrinated Black people by using religion to say if you don't have it you are no good, fit for HELL. They have already planned to approach our Pastors in our Community with just that approach. And like a stray cat some will follow.

I believe Republicans would welcome any member of a 'minority' group with open arms who is willing to consistently vote against their own best interest to maintain the status quo of white privilege and dominance. They are looking for a tanner version of the many low/no information white sheeple who already fall for the BS, and who time after time willingly vote against policies or programs that would directly benefit them.

Republicans are looking for more suckers and a lot of African Americans simply refuse to play the game.
