There is more to this story than the average American realizes.U.S. intelligence officials are seeking to determine whether an American businessman identified by Donald Trump as one of his foreign policy advisers has opened up private communications with senior Russian officials including talks about the possible lifting of economic sanctions if the Republican nominee becomes president, according to multiple sources who have been briefed on the issue.
The activities of Trump adviser Carter Page, who has extensive business interests in Russia, have been discussed with senior members of Congress during recent briefings about suspected efforts by Moscow to influence the presidential election, the sources said. After one of those briefings, Senate minority leader Harry Reid wrote FBI Director James Comey, citing reports of meetings between a Trump adviser (a reference to Page) and high ranking sanctioned individuals in Moscow over the summer as evidence of significant and disturbing ties between the Trump campaign and the Kremlin that needed to be investigated by the bureau.

According to a former briefer interviewed on TV, most don't even want sensitive info during the grueling days of the campaigns for fear they might blab something forgetting where they heard it.

My own, imagining if Rump were elected, is directed to wondering how many of "the generals" would dutifully refuse to follow improper orders, as writers in various prestigious journals have suggested they certainly would. There are obviously plenty of Gen. Flynns, Allens, McInerneys out there, and presumably some of them would be in the White House. Trump's already signaled his readiness to replace current with his own choices.

(30,813 posts)I don't fault them for not catching that.
But here we have something in progress. All it takes is some digging.

(58,785 posts)and other agencies who, of course, do not discuss their investigations. We have to always keep in mind that we usually know nothing about most of what is going on, not even that it's going on. With that in mind, we can avoid the foolish mistake of assuming there is nothing.
This account of a journalist's tiresome labors in trying to identify and confirm if this nobody even existed is pretty readable. It seems Carter Who? Page was a very small, obscure potato who got elevated by associating with a freak U.S. presidential candidacy. Carter may end up in trouble with the government for something, and it could be embarrassing for the Trump campaign--who are distancing like crazy, but if Putin's attempts to corrupt our election and infiltrate our government are serious, it's apparently unlikely that this is one of his guys.
Regarding how on earth Carter Page became a "foreign policy advisor" to Trump, who in spite of being a complete Washington outsider insists he only hires "the very best,"
...
At a time when established Republican foreign policy specialists were tripping over each other to get away from Trump, a lot of people came to Sam Clovis in February, March, and said, I want to be part of the team, says the Trump advisor. And thats how it happened. Hes just a guy on a list. Trump looked at the list and said, Hes an advisor. And now hes milking it for all its worth.
...
Now, someone whom no one in the field had ever heard of was suddenly a Very Important Person in Washingtonor at least could plausibly market himself as one.

(58,785 posts)campaign manager has all the sinister connections we don't want anywhere near our candidates for president, and there is/was someone else I read about at one point. Trump's connections to the Kremlin and Russian business and mobsters are very real.

(1,254 posts)Putin and Russian's are trying to help Trump get elected and Trump is being played. He is the best thing to come along for the Russians. Make America great again....BULLSHIT! Does anyone realize the incredible amount of power Putin will have if he is pulling Trump's strings in the WH. This could be the start of the REAL "New World Order" that so many of the conspiracy theorist have be pushing, EXCEPT, not starting with the UN. Starting with Trump as POTUS, Putin, and corrupt global corporations whose interest is to forgo borders and rule the planet as one giant corporation. No government, we are owned by, controlled by the corporation, with Putin, Trump Family and other nefarious businessmen on the Board of Directors. No wonder the corporate sponsored media is promoting/pushing Trump. They are on board with this.

(65,616 posts)The wacko Trump supporters are eager for mushrooms clouds. I fear they have finally lost their minds. I don't know how people in the intel fields can handle knowing Trump owes money to the Russians and who knows what else.
First republicans steal the election, now they want to install a crazy rich man that is up to his eyeballs in debt to foreign powers. They are so incredibly stupid.
