The Fractured Republican Cult

It's been proven over and over that it doesn't matter what Trump says. Republican voters want an outsider. They want an anti-establishment politician. They want smaller government.

This mentality really baffles me. As a person that lived overseas for 10 years, it's impossible for me to not take offense.

Here in a America, we have more freedoms than anywhere on the planet. You can even be on a no fly list and still have the right to go out and buy a gun.

If you ask me, that's a pretty lenient government. Republicans have their guns. Their walk in closets hold enough arms for a large militia. They can open carry in many places. They can shout out racial slurs against our president (my absolute hero, by the way) and they won't get locked up for any of those things. Not even a slap on the wrist. There are countries that impose the death penalty for speaking out against their leaders.

What is it that Republicans really want when they say "less government?"

I don't know if they've noticed, but in a complex world, We need a robust government; not the Wild West.

Not everybody gets the opportunity to live abroad. Not everybody even needs to. But it certainly helped me with perspective. I'm glad I had that experience. The whining baby phenomenon must be part of a larger problem; not large government.

My best guess is the freedom of speech that we all enjoy has brainwashed many republican voters. "The world is coming to an end." "The government is out to get you." "Obama founded ISIS." If you get enough people shouting such things, the party is going to be led to believe it all. And let's face it, they have enjoyed tapping into anger, until they realized the consequences of how that has destroyed their party.

The Republican party is a mess, and I hope that they will spend some time changing their message before they become the Republican Cult.

If a moderate like Kasich had won the primary, (sadly) I don't think Hillary would win (although she'd absolutely have my vote.)

But look - even a wacko tea party politician like Ted Cruz, couldn't win. He's not "outside" enough. What is this dangerous obsession with destruction that Republicans crave?

I really hope we can bring some honesty and class back to a 2-party system. It's in need of dire repair.

He's been inside, bribing pols for years, and has supported many lefty positions in the past.

What a fantasy his supporters are living in. SMH.
