2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumTrump just said Hillary failed the DC bar exam. And he uses the "fire Marshall" story at EVERY RALLY
At every rally, Trump claims that the "Fire Marshall" won't allow in "thousands and thousands" of people. His fixation with his stupid rallies is just so pathetic; it is actually very childlike. I find it very hard to believe that the evil "Fire Marshall" is refusing to allow in thousands of extra Trumpers. Trump always then makes a big show of "telling" the "Fire Marshall" to "let them in!" Dutifully, the crowd starts chanting "let them in! Let them in!"
It is pathetic. And now he is taking pure cheap shots at Clinton (after he claimed that all the polls said he won the debate -- the online polls that he always believes) -- I have never heard about the DC bar exam but the idea that Clinton is anything short of brilliant, with outstanding academic credentials, is just ridiculous. Trump is so insecure that he spent years saying blatantly false statements that he was "first in his class at Wharton" etc. First, Trump was an undergrad at Penn in the undergrad business program that existed then; he was NOT part of the Wharton MBA program. He never obtained an MBA. He loves to mislead low-information voters about this -- so many of them think that Trump has an MBA from Wharton and is "like really brilliant." And of course Trump was not first in his class (or even close).

(5,611 posts)obvious, and it's just another sign of how empty Trump is as a candidate. His surrogates on CNN are just so painful -- Kayleigh the Trump Elf, and Boris the Dancing Russian Bear, and Jeffrey the "Ask me anything about Ronald Reagan" guy are the worst.

(5,611 posts)gesture. For some reason the dummies who attend his rallies love to hear the lines about the evil Fire Marshalls. I guess it makes them feel tough to defy the local gubment, and extra special to be inside a stupid political rally like they are seeing a real rock star instead of an obese old man with orange hair who wants to be president.
Trump voters always seem extra pathetic to me because they seem to think his "money mojo" will rub off on them somehow. It is some form of magical thinking -- worship the guy who claims to be rich and try to touch his garment as he passes by -- I always see them dressed in t-shirts and Trump hats reaching out for him -- as you might then become a millionaire...

(4,533 posts)The D.C. bar exam had recently changed what it covered to include laws from multiple states, not just from D.C.. Her instructor, a local law professor, had not updated the materials he taught to include the changes.
Having passed the California bar exam, knowing what is involved in preparing, knowing the peculiarities of the many areas of laws studied, I find her failure funny. Sort of an episode of I love Lucy where Lucy by mistake ends up in a ludicrous situation. If you don't study the specific areas covered by the test, even if you are real smart, you can easily fail.

(5,611 posts)is running his mouth. A law degree from Yale is serious business, and Hillary was also an excellent student -- an outstanding student-- as an undergrad. Nobody even remembers Trump at Penn (there was an article in the Penn paper about this)

It was definitely unusual and surprising that she failed the DC Bar (she even says so in her book).
Probably it was just a stressful time for her and she just had a bad day.

(54,414 posts)My daughter went to law school in New York (passed the NY bar the first time), and since she went to undergrad in DC, she looked into taking the bar exam there, and decided she might as well stay in NY. Oddly enough, she told a friend who had failed the DC bar exam to try her home state of Massachusetts, which, for all its academia, is known among law students as "Passachusetts" for its easy bar exam.
DFW
(54,414 posts)It was already divided up into the various "schools" even at the undergraduate level. So being "in Wharton" merely meant you had decided on a business-oriented study from the beginning and were enrolled accordingly after being accepted--just like women were automatically enrolled in the "college for women." In reality, there was no distinction, and we all took classes together. My economics class was held in the Wharton building, so technically, I "went to Wharton" too for part of my undergrad education. No big deal. "Believe me."

(15,370 posts)Hillary's humanity, IMO. There is another thread (at least one) discussing this and yes, it's true, as others here have confirmed. http://www.democraticunderground.com/?com=view_post&forum=1251&pid=2450453
I posted a lot of information there that I am too lazy to repost - sorry about that!
But Hillary took two bar exams (DC and Arkansas). She passed the Arkansas Bar exam. I am not sure what the difficulty level of the Arkansas exam was in 1973, but in 2013, it was considered to be the second most difficult. http://abovethelaw.com/2013/04/which-state-has-the-most-difficult-bar-exam/
In the other thread, I posted a link from March 2016, which says that the Arkansas Bar is still ranked as the second most difficult.

(6,286 posts)by 2 points. Smoked it the second time. I have an uncle who is a trial lawyer. We compared notes and stories. There's no doubt in my mind he had the more difficult and grueling exam. What has Trump ever passed that was a real test of his "good brain"? Answer: not a damned thing. Being personally wealthy can be a result of a good skillset at something, but it doesn't definitely mean you are smart. I hate this orange dildo more every day.
I remember 4 years ago, after that first debate, when I was genuinely scared Romney could pull it off. I thought he would be the most amoral and greedy candidate the Republicans could ever field. Boy, was I wrong.

A lot of third-tier law schools specifically prep their students for the bar exam, but that ends up being for many a lot like test prep in our public schools--aimed at making sure the student passes a test rather than making sure the student has a deep understanding of the topic.
