2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumNASHVILLE DUers! My new Democratic state House member needs your help!
I live in Knoxville. We're one of the ONLY... actually, I think we are the only... community to send a NEW Democrat to the state House.
She needs digs. She's a teacher. She teaches the hard-to-reach kids (the alternative school). She makes practically nothing.
Does anyone have a room. A clean place for her?
Wanna turn Tennessee some purple instead of claiming we should cede? HELP.

Look, I've been on the phone with my NEW REP (I'm so proud) for hours and hours and hours over time. I'm not kidding here.
Any ideas? Please post here to tell me you've IMed.

(2,500 posts)I must be getting old. It doesn't seem that long ago when McWherter was governor and TN had a Democratic House. When it flipped to the right, it must have gone into a steep dive.

(11,366 posts)McWherter, whom I met and interviewed and loved, died and with him the last vestige of Democratic rule.
We're off the deep end, but I told Gloria that I'm game to help.
Are you? Can you help? Please.

(2,500 posts)I don't understand what kind of help you are appealing for. A room? I have no room. I haven't lived in TN for years. Are you saying your new Democratic state rep is homeless or something?

(2,500 posts)I'm guessing Gloria needs a temporary room in Nashville near the state capitol. I know very little about Nashville except for weekend stays. I wish you the best in helping her find one.

(2,500 posts)I don't doubt that area doesn't pay well, even for a teacher of special need children. Did you know that East Tennessee State in Johnson City was airing a progressive channel some 5 years ago? They programmed Democracy Now in 2007/2008. I don't know if the university still has the funding for it or if the programming is available today.
