I am BRUTAL to the so-called educated people at work when they send me misspelled and grammatically incorrect emails. And yes I do SNOPE my aunt a lot but it's like nothing seems to get through to her. I've urged her so many times to just GOOGLE and research for herself but I honestly think Fox fans WANT to believe the garbage they are fed - there's really no other logical explanation.

Whenever I use Snopes to debunk right-wing bullshit, I inevitably hear "Snopes in inaccurate" or other such bullshit. Pointing out that they cite their sources doesn't make one iota of difference. The assholes who feed them the garbage also feed them the BS that such sources as Snopes, FactCheck.org, and Media Matters are liars. Like you said, people like your aunt WANT to believe the garbage they are fed. Facts schmacts. None are so blind as those who refuse to see.

I also defriended all family members on FB. They would post shit there even worse than the shit they would email. They asked why I took them off FB at the last family gathering. I explained I liked them in person at the family functions, but I couldn't stand their social/political positions they would post on FB. It was better for me not to know them as personally as FB was letting me get to know them.

They just didn't get it. Thankfully, they control it at those rare family functions.

People become addicted to it and it just feeds their habit and frenzy. I see that with my husband. Anger. It intensifies an anger.

Honestly it is very sad to watch. These people will not look at anything else which will give an impartial or different opnion.

I couldn't stay with someone who'd bought into that hateful mindset.

I really thought I had ended it when I flat-out told her YES BIRTHERS ARE RACISTS after yet another one of her silly birther emails.

Asking her to stop is probably the best way to keep a relationship with her. I hope it works. It didn't work with the Fox News junkie that I knew.
