Tim Kaine’s (Successful) Debate Trap for Mike Pence - WaPo

Tim Kaine went into Tuesday night’s debate with a singular strategy: to make it uncomfortable for Mike Pence to defend Donald Trump’s rhetoric and record. He succeeded.

The stakes were high for Mr. Pence heading into the vice-presidential debate. There was Mr. Trump’s poor performance in his debate last Monday with Hillary Clinton, his meltdown in the following days and Twitter attacks on former Miss Universe Alicia Machado, and the leak of pages from his 1995 taxes showing a loss of more than $900 million and suggestions that he may not have paid federal income taxes for nearly two decades.

Amid Mr. Trump’s decline in polls, Mr. Pence needed to change the trajectory of the race and to settle people’s concerns about his running mate. Unfortunately for Mr. Trump, he failed. Worse, he barely tried. - WashingtonPost
