received nearly universal condemnation for taking it as a serious issue.

I don't know, I think democratic norms are sort of important. A Constitution is more or less worthless without them. Don't get me wrong I don't think anyone is going to successfully pull off a coup. Could a few crazies hurt people though? Much more likely. More importantly though are the long term effects if maybe thinking about not accepting the outcomes of elections becomes normalized.

the threat implicit in der drumpfenfuhrer's comment is appalling, horrifying, and, given the crazies who support him, all too real.

first woman president. Many thousands of black people across the nation have borne the burden of the backlash over Obama's election.

Hopefully greater familiarity will make Hillary disliked by many fewer, and even less hated by some. But Judicial Watch alone boasts of having 5 "-gates" all ready to go, and I'm afraid we should assume both personal and institutionalized backlash, in addition to the usual hatefulness, will assure them a large share of public attention.

As for the boogie of violent civil unrest, though, pffft! There are no all-men's or women's neighborhoods to riot and burn in.

is "respectable," and even misogyny if "respectably" served up. People aren't educated to the reality that there's almost no such thing as a bigot who only despises one group different from his own.

When someone expresses true, hostile bigotry against any group, including liberals, I know I'm looking at someone who'd turn on my Jewish husband in the wrong circumstances, assuming that person wasn't Jewish himself of course. And there are male bigots who would lynch women in a different world. Heck, they set them on fire in other parts of this one.
