If Trump drops out and Pence or another not-crazy conservative is the nominee than all the GOPers who are voting HRC or sitting out the election will have ZERO problem voting for the new GOP candidate. Trump needs to remain in the race until the bitter end.

He doesn't think he's done anything wrong. Also, although some high-level GOPers are distancing themselves and condemning his behavior (like Paul Ryan), so far none of them have actually withdrawn their endorsements. Mitch McConnell has just now demanded Trump apologize but he hasn't un-endorsed him. Furthermore, his base will continue to support him because they actually admire that kind of behavior - I'm sure an excursion into FR will confirm that. As long as Trump continues to get support from the white supremacist/alt-right trolls who've loved him so far, he'll hang in there. Withdrawing would be admitting he's a failure and a loser and I don't think he could stand that.
