Hey! Media! stop treating us like children!!!

http://money.cnn.com/2016/10/07/media/vulgar-comments-donald-trump-headlines/index.html?iid=surge-story-summary

The Washington Post, which broke the news, also censored itself, using "p---y." A story on Fox News' website Friday evening didn't use the quote at all. "The developer and reality TV star-turned GOP presidential candidate uses a vulgar anatomical term and discusses trying to have sex with an unidentified, married woman," the article read.

On the other hand, the historically staid New York Times didn't censor itself, and used the word in full. So did Politico, and NBC News' website. CNN also used the word on air, as well as in its its stories online, but presented a disclaimer at the top -- as in this article -- warning readers of the graphic language. (It also bleeped the f-word on air.)

all akimbo about those seven words, 50 years later. what a world

show us mass murdering mayhem....bloody body parts splashed in the streets

violence porn on the nightly police procedural/pathology dreck that pollutes the airwaves

but, lorda mighty....the P word!

the T word

the B word, even!

twist my shorts in a wad, slap my ass and call me sally,

how old do these hypocritical Salemites think the average adult is, and how many THOUSANDS of times do they think we've such such billingsgate. do we need protection like that?

how I loathe them all

But we had Gabby Hayes, Liberace, The Lady of Charm (local & horrible!), and, of course, fucking Froggy the Gremlin (with Handsome Al, then Andy Devine -- when Al died).

I liked Kukla, Fran, and Ollie, too.

saw them do it live in DC the year to the day after Nixon's resignation

we gave them the best cue for an improve, so we got to meet them after the show

they weren't too keen on it by the time it was over....they were on for about two hours, and were drained

but I digress:

how weird was that andy devine stuff? not to mention Jingles and Wild Bill?

remember how he used to kinda throw the bullets out of his gun?

Indeed, I remember Andy Devine as Jingles. And yes, nobody could shoot accurately like that.

And I am a huge Firesign Theater fan.

A trip down memory lane.

someone complained to the moderators and said my comment was sexist because I used the word pussy...I wonder if it would of been oK if I said Mike "Prick" Pence? And now look there is pussy here and pussy there..pussy high and pussy low. I foreshadowed the pussy.

So apparently some of us do need protecting.

Hey Gabi,

There's a lot in the papers; concern about treaties etc. Lots of comment, most of it disgusted by Trump. I don't read any of the Murdoch rags - they're all behind paywalls anyway, so most of my news comes from Fairfax (The Age, SMH), or the ABC (national broadcaster).

Fairfax is pretty good. They have a few experienced US journalists who are totally partisan. Sure, there is the odd criticism of Hillary but they are roasting Trump.

I really respect this guy, Paul McGeogh. Sample of today's column:

Tape shows disgusting Donald Trump at his sexist, misogynist worst

Washington: This is disgusting. The unearthing of a 2005 recording of Republican candidate Donald Trump at his sexist, misogynist worst surely puts him beyond the pale for even more voters – women and men.

Crude and crass, this tape has enough political dynamite to destroy his faltering campaign. "This one will cause real damage," Republican pollster Frank Luntz said.

And it confirms the darkest fears of so many in the GOP who opposed his nomination – if a party is reckless enough to run a candidate as dangerous as Trump, it has only itself to blame when cast-iron evidence surfaces of him being his worst self. That he did it in the company of a scion of a revered GOP family – the Bushes – only makes it worse.

The vulgarity is bad enough. Worse is Trump's presumption that men are entitled to treat women purely as sex objects - "when you're a star, they let you do it".

unluckiest man in Austrile-yah, twould seem. blimey!

btw, have you heard of the book, The Lieutenant?

here.....love its tale of the first brits to land at botany bay, iirc

A stunning follow-up to her Commonwealth Writers' Prize-winning book, The Secret River, Kate Grenville's The Lieutenant is a gripping story about friendship, self-discovery, and the power of language set along the unspoiled shores of 1788 New South Wales. As a boy, Daniel Rooke was always an outsider. Ridiculed in school and misunderstood by his parents, Daniel could only hope, against all the evidence, that he would one day find his place in life. When he joins the marines and travels to New South Wales as a lieutenant on the First Fleet, Daniel finally sees his chance for a new beginning.

As his countrymen struggle to control their cargo of convicts and communicate with those who already inhabit the land, Daniel constructs an observatory to chart the stars and begin the scientific work he prays will make him famous. But the place where they have landed will prove far more revelatory than the night sky. Out on his isolated point, Daniel comes to intimately know the local Aborigines and forges a remarkable connection with one young girl, Tagaran, that will forever change the course of his life.

As the strained coexistence between the Englishmen and the native tribes collapses into violence, Daniel is forced to decide between dedication to his work, allegiance to his country, and his protective devotion to Tagaran and her people. Inspired by the notebooks of British astronomer William Dawes, The Lieutenant is a remarkable story about the poignancy and emotional power of a friendship that defies linguistic and cultural barriers, and shows one ordinary man that he is capable of exceptional courage.

It is the height of ridiculousness. But then again, there are people who think it is disgusting for a mother to breast feed her child. It's a fucked up world, folks. We've had our very own language police here on DU.
