Hacked emails appear to reveal excerpts of speech transcripts Clinton refused to release

The email, apparently hacked from Clinton campaign chairman John Podesta, shows a staffer in the early stages of Clinton’s primary campaign against Sen. Bernie Sanders this year flagging speech excerpts that could be politically problematic.

Sanders had questioned what Clinton had said to the financial institutions that paid her hundreds of thousands of dollars in speaking fees between the end of her tenure as secretary of state and the start of her run for the White House.

Clinton, for instance, described her free-trade ambitions during a 2013 appearance before the U.S. arm of a Brazilian banking group. Records show the group, Itaú BBA USA Securities, paid her $225,000.

“My dream is a hemispheric common market, with open trade and open borders,” she said, according to an email first reported by BuzzFeed.

The Clinton campaign on Friday night refused to authenticate the hacked emails, instead attacking WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange, who has been openly critical of Clinton. The site released hacked Democratic National Committee emails over the summer that U.S. intelligence officials on Friday accused Russia of stealing.

“We are not going to confirm the authenticity of stolen documents released by Julian Assange, who has made no secret of his desire to damage Hillary Clinton,” Clinton spokesman Glen Caplin said. He referred to doctored emails that have appeared on websites linked to Russian intelligence recently as proof that “documents can be faked as part of a sophisticated Russian misinformation campaign,” although Caplin did not say that the emails released Friday concerning Clinton’s speeches had been faked.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

“How do you get to the golden key, how do we figure out what works?” the email indicates that Clinton said in the speech, speaking of Wall Street regulation. “And the people that know the industry better than anybody are the people who work in the industry.” Records show Clinton was paid $260,000 to address Deutsche Bank in 2014.

In another speech to Goldman Sachs in Arizona in 2013, Clinton fretted that “part of the problem with the political situation, too, is that there is such a bias against people who have led successful and/or complicated lives.” She was paid $225,000 for the Arizona speech, records show.

My thoughts on this are that the only thing that is damaging is optics.

Yes, Hillary has led a "successful and/or complicated life" and she has had MAJOR bias against her for that.

And yes, no one can win an election without major money, and that money comes from Wall Street. As Barney Frank said, "of course you need money to win an election. I took Wall Street's money in my campaign, and then I wrote Dodd Frank."

I also agree that you need someone who knows how Wall Street works to deal with Wall Street in any sort of effective manner - see also Elizabeth Warren. The Clinton Foundation worked closely with big pharma to get them to change their market strategy to go with providing bulk HIV/AIDS anti-retrovirals at a much low profit margin, instead of few units at a large profit margin. They didn't get those companies to do this by saying, "Suck it up and lower your prices, corrupt assholes." If that means being in bed with corporations, then I would like to see more of it.

As for the 2013 "My dream is a hemispheric common market, with open trade and open borders," comment, if it is something that wasn't altered, then I'm going to just say that people change their minds on issue. Certainly Robert Reich has since he fast tracked NAFTA. Obama has not changed his mind on this, but is a world away from where he was on marriage equality from the start of his administration.

1. On some issues she's further left than I thought she was during the primaries and one or two issues

... she's candid like her current life style and wall street money which I believe she wants out of the whole thing.

I don't see how this hurts her overall...

We can easily produce much more than we can consume. Food products for starters.

She also talks about how there needs to be balance and accountability. Only to the pure at heart Libertarians-In-Training does this imply anything sinister.

I will always try to see things accurately without regard to emotion and these transcripts are worthless for those with an agenda, be they Left or Right.

There was some transcripts floating around in which one folder said Play for Pay. I don't know WHAT the Russians are doing except trying to destroy our elections and get tRamp elected. Sorry, but I'm not in love with tRump's boyfriend Putin nor with Russian intelligence, and don't trust any of them as far as I can throw a Mack Truck.

It pisses me off that some people are blaming Bernie for making this an issue. Honestly, I wish he had hit her harder about this, about her e-mails, about everything else the GOP are attacking her on, because none of it is that bad and if she had just dealt with it in the primaries it would not be hurting her as much now.

It seems we got lucky with the Trump groping scandal, but I am not ready to declare victory until the networks do. The last thing we need is our side getting complacent while Trump's supporters publicly condemn him but still vote for him in the privacy of the voting booth.
