2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumTwo things we should not let the public forget about Trump and his party:
First: more Republicans voted for Trump in this primary than for any other Republican in the history of GOP primaries. He is their representative, their champion, their choice. That so many Republicans actually thought this cretin fit for office speaks volumes about what the modern GOP has become.
Second: not a single one of the other GOP candidates pressed home what a disgusting predator we see in Trump. He's a predator in his business dealings, he's a predator in his politics, and he's now a self-confessed sexual predator as well. Either the other GOP candidates were too cowardly to bring this up--too afraid of his bullying and too afraid of alienating his hardcore constituency--or they were too incompetent to do the opposition research required to take him down. Even the vaunted Bush family, with all their experience and resources, were entirely inadequate to the task.
These people don't qualify to run a neighborhood bingo game, much less a nation. The GOP is entirely unfit and, evidently, entirely incompetent. Its obstructionism of the last eight years should have proved that to the American people but somehow the message didn't get through.
This time let's make sure it does.

(26,263 posts)Who know - maybe there was a 'gentleman's agreement' as to what was on and off the table. And, yea, that is the loosest use of the word 'gentleman' in the history of the world.
