In fact, that's more than enough of a sample size for a poll to be statistically significant.

I was just responding to that one particular statement from the poster of the OP. I think it is a common misperception that one needs a thousand plus people for a survey to be valid. It was not meant to be directed to this specific poll in particular. Not trying to derail the discussion, just a minor point of fact.

but she implied it was about the sample size, not it's historical results. If it is like the Gallup Daily Tracking poll, they only have 500 respondents daily, but they do a rolling average over the last 3 results with a margin of error of 3%.

White undereducated men from red states, your poll only tells you info on that pop, not the general population

A 400 people poll has a huge margin of error even when done under the most scientific conditions (expensive) which most are not

Often self selected sample, made in a place or web site to attract a GOP response
Bad questions, leading questions, bad interview technique
Small sample with huge margins of error even if the poll was done correctly

These polls are done to generate talking points, not for info
