(15,951 posts)why then are all these GOPers calling on him to quit?

(41,984 posts)There have to be really strange options. I think the GOP has long since bailed and is now trying very hard to configure something that will leave the party only badly wounded and not utterly destroyed.

(6,544 posts)They vote for an individual. The party is a convenience only. The name on the ballot is Donald Trump. Period. Game over

(26,263 posts)That's my guess.
They need voters to "think" they are still the "moral majority", even though Trump has shown they aren't. Those in tight races this year are doing all they can to get away from having to explain their support for Trump. The knew what he was, and they still supported him, so it won't be easy to get out from under his stench.

The first step of The Flip must begin very soon ideally, this week or next. At a joint press conference, Pence and Trump should with fanfare announce that, if they win in November, Pence will be in charge, thanks to the rules laid down by the Constitutions 25th Amendment, which was ratified in 1967 after the assassination of John F. Kennedy.

(15,696 posts)They don't actually care about women; if they did, they wouldn't keep talking about "comments" or "remarks" made by Trump and instead call them what they are: confessions of sexual assault and attempted sexual assault.
People my age quote this often: It doesn't take a weatherman to know which way the wind blows.

(395 posts)The rules are murky, but I believe the party rules applies the same way if the Republican candidate drops out, dies, or is incapacitated.
There are two ways for the Republicans to re-nominate a candidate if Trump drops out. 1) They could reconvene at another convention and have all of the 2,472 delegates vote, or 2) the 168-member committee could decide with each member getting a portion of votes based on the population of the state they represent. Number 2 seems like a more likely scenario.

That's why you are seeing R calling for him to drop out. Don't quote me, but there seems to be a technicality which may allow R to select a new representative if the original candidate party garner enough EC votes in the GE.

(14,564 posts)He can "drop out" but he is going to be in the ballot because states are about to or already have started early and absentee voting.

(15,696 posts)It's insulting to "our" women? It's impossible for me to believe that someone who boasted about having "binders full of women" really cares about Donald Trump"s behavior.
