They've built their own trap, and it can only get tighter.

Clinton should be out there laying out her positive program for the country. Down-ballot is still an issue.

The smart money in the GOP has known this was a down-ballot election for them for months. Trump was never going to win, but they might keep it close enough to save those other seats. But now, they are facing the prospect of a base defection, with Dems posting Presidential election year numbers, while the GOP base posts perhaps midterm numbers. Utter bloodbath.

They deserve every bit of it.

But we still have to post those Presidential year numbers ourselves, which means working like hell to get the vote out. No precinct for granted. Pour it on. Attack attack attack.

Tough year to be running as a Republican. They're facing backlash if they don't support sexual assault.

If they had a hit man kill him, could they stick somebody else in there? No chance of winning, of course, but it would be less embarrassing. They could at least say, "We lost because our candidate died." That would be better for them than what's about to happen.
