Seriously, I don't think he wants to step up to the top of the ticket this season. He's got ambition and he wants the Oval Office. He's an asshat but he's not politically suicidal. Jumping into the top seat with 30 days to go in a dumpster fire candidacy vs. a strong opponent - that's the kiss of death. I don't think he can lose in this general (for whatever reason) and reasonably expect to make it to another general.

IMHO.

First, he brushes off outrage as mere "political correctness," thus losing his image among those who wanted him to be "Trump with a human face." Then, by throwing Donald under the bus in a public manner, he ensures that the devoted Trumpistas see him as a betrayer of their hero.

Yesterday, I suspected that Trump would be forced to quit and Pence would take over. Now, I would think that, even if Pussy-Grabber Galore were to drop out, the G.O.P. would have to pick someone else.

One? Two runs for the Presidency? Pence is an asshole, but he's a smart asshole. He knows this election is a disaster. Why waste a shot at the White House when the Republican chances are sinking into the sunset? Nah - he's going to become invisible. No more speeches, no more public events, no more photo ops with Trump.
