They didn't. They threw their support behind Trump, even though they were fully aware of him calling women fat pigs, of him saying Megyn Kelley was bleeding from "wherever," of him questioning John McCain (one of their own!) being a war hero, etc.

They are simply Trump lite. At heart, there's no space between them.
