This has got to be a record for elected officials dropping their party's nominee


The closest comparisons in somewhat recent history would be Goldwater in '64 and McGovern in '72. I don't think the number of defections among senators or representatives came close in either case to Trump's situation today. (And in the 1964 scenario, there were probably more Deep South Democrats who dropped LBJ than GOPers who declined to support Goldwater.) The center is not holding.
