(34,857 posts)With that said, I'm not sure Trump loses Utah.
I could see it where the numbers breakdown like 1992, when Bill Clinton finished third behind Perot:
Trump: 39
Johnson: 30
Hillary: 25
McMullin: 6

(266 posts)Should Clinton prevail in this presidential contest, we trust she and those in the Congress that hold the presidency in check will recognize that her likely victory against a self-wounded candidate is not a mandate for her specific platform, but rather a repudiation of Trumps flaws.
So Hillary gets no mandate. She can win, but it's only because people didn't like Trump. She can't push her agenda, because it's not a "real" win in that people want her policies.
This will be the new GOP justification for stonewalling in Congress and opposing everything that Clinton wants to do.

(2,850 posts)The way to break the dysfunction is to separate the Republican dead-enders from everyone else, and then drown the party in the bathtub of a not-hegemonically-white America that's going to come in 10 - 20 years.
Hillary will probably not get that much done, because the Republicans will be up to their usual tricks. Its not her fault, but it's something we'll have to deal with. Obama destroyed McCain and Romney and they still found excuses for not considering him a legitimate president. Hopefully we at least get control of the senate, so that we can get a new supreme court justice.

(2,850 posts)They aren't willing to be part of a reasonable governing coalition anymore. They took a parliamentary maneuver of last resort (the filibuster) and re-purposed it as a default stance in order to block everything Obama wanted to do. In order for our republic to recover, their party has to die and be replaced by a party that refuses to represent irredeemable morons.

(266 posts)Even though we now see lots of Republicans begging people to not vote for Trump, they won't let Hillary's win be a "mandate". She won because the alternative was unthinkable. That doesn't mean she has a mandate -- or possibly even a "real majority"! -- to do what she wants.
Just suggesting this is the next Republican argument for obstruction, which will certainly happen after she's elected.

(58,660 posts)I'm hoping of at least 40 states going blue this time. We should be able to flip the Senate. If we could flip the House, that would be mandate enough for me, regardless of any RW comments to the contrary.
