2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumI went to the Avocado Festival in Carpenteria CA today. 4 years ago all the farms had Romney signs
on their fences.
It's one of the red areas of CA.
The growers are very Republican.
The fences were full of signs.
I mean like 5 signs for each farm
This year as we were driving past all the farms I noticed there were a lack of signs
Just as I mentioned it to my wife we passed a Clinton sign, then another.
I drove around an extra road or two and there was only one Trump sign in the whole town and several Clinton.
4 years ago there were no Obama signs at all
I think the growers knew they could not publicly support Trump because the whole town/valley runs on Mexican heritage labor.
It didn't look like any signs had just come down today either.
But the fact that there were any Clinton signs, I take it all as a good sign

(453 posts)There are about an equal amount of Trump signs to Hillary in the most Red areas of Louisville.
But in Blue areas of Louisville there are a lot of Hillary signs.
Not scientific I know. There are a lot of people that are probably too ashamed to put up Trump signs, but they'll still vote for him. Louisville traditional goes blue. My hope is that the blue areas of KY will go super blue and can override the rest of the state.

(5,754 posts)I'm from Louisville but live in Atlanta now. I spent some time in Kansas City recently. All of the signs I saw were for local candidates.

(17,062 posts)Recently, when I drove through there, the signs were about the Pelosi created water shortage and so forth. So this sounds like a breakthrough of sorts.

(58,785 posts)We used to have friends there but haven't visited in a long time. And, yes, it all seems like a good sign. Just wish everyone was forced to consider the feelings of others that way, or even that others have feelings at all. A natural barrier to extremism.
