Dana Milbank: We knew this Trump all along

Republicans are shocked — shocked! — about Donald Trump’s caught-on-tape remarks boasting in vulgar terms about sexual assaults on women.

GOP Sens. John McCain, John Thune, Kelly Ayotte, Mike Lee, Mark Kirk and Mike Crapo, two Republican governors and a dozen or more GOP members of the House either said they won’t support Trump or called on Trump to quit, while many others, including Trump running mate Mike Pence, expressed their disgust.

What was on the 2005 video tape, first reported by The Post’s indefatigable David A. Fahrenthold, was beyond what we’ve known before of Trump — that he grabs the genitals of women without their consent and tried mightily to seduce a married woman. But it’s worse only by degrees. If this is the straw that broke the camel’s back, this dromedary was already overburdened and suffering from arthritis, spinal stenosis and ruptured disks.

Republicans may be dismayed by the super-predator they saw and heard in the video (just as they purported to be stunned by Trump’s racist attack on Judge Gonzalo Curiel despite Trump’s long history of racism), but they have no business being surprised. What’s on that tape is entirely consistent with what we already knew.

Even before this tape emerged, we knew that his wife Ivana accused him at the time of their divorce of raping her (Trump’s lawyer asserted that there is no such thing as spousal rape). We’ve known for months that makeup artist Jill Harth filed a 1997 complaint accusing Trump of attempted rape and of groping her in his daughter Ivanka’s bedroom. We’ve seen complaint after complaint about his lewd behavior on set at “The Apprentice” and at his Miss Universe pageants.

4. What the hell do they expect from someone who threatened Hillary twice?

Trump suggested that a "second amendment solution" for Hillary might help save his version of the Supreme Court and the national press said almost absolutely nothing, nothing, nothing at all about that awful statement.

And then Trump said that perhaps Hillary's Secret Service should go without weapons for protection, should disarm themselves -- ""Take their guns away," Trump said. "She doesn't want guns. Let's see what happens to her. Take their guns away. It would be very dangerous."

And again there was no media outrage at that outrageous statement, or at the threats of violence suggested by Trump regarding "policing" Pennsylvania polling places.

There was his refusal to admit that DNA evidence had exonerated those Black teenagers accused of raping and beating that jogger some years ago. Those were the boys he had tried to get executed for the crime when they had been wrongly convicted of it. Later, he insisted that they must be guilty because the police had thought them guilty, even after the DNA evidence had shown that they were not guilty.

7. He's been fomenting mistrust of the press as a stopgap against all this.

It's evil genius. Can't believe a word they say. They're after us little people. They'll try to take me away from you. They must be controlled.

Fortunately, in most areas he's really stupid.

numerous users on this site and elsewhere have predicted that
Trump would slash and burn the GOP if he thought it would help him.

Remember, everyone had to be "fair" to him.

I thought Reince had cleared that up?

In all areas of life, be very very cautious about getting in bed with drama queens.
