I just had one of those frustrating calls with a family member most of us

have probably had.

She mentioned something about her daughter -- who has health problems -- still being on her dad's policy. I said, well you do know that that is only because of Obamacare, right? I was about to remind her that the Rethugs want to repeal it in total, which would affect her daughter's insurance. But she quickly made it clear she didn't want to talk politics.

Then she asked me what she probably thought would be a gotcha -- did I know anyone who was actually on Obamacare. I said, yes, my son and his girlfriend. I could tell that surprised her.

And then she was talking about being disappointed with Planned Parenthood because they wouldn't accept their insurance. And that IS unfortunate. But she also talked about the awfulness of having to walk the gauntlet of protesters, when she was only taking her daughter there for birth control. And she mentioned that one of the branches had been closed down -- which I knew was because of a new law in her red state.

It kills me that she just won't connect all the ways that her life is affected by the politics she refuses to talk about.

I knew an idiot who railed against the ACA but who ended up getting several operations that she had been unable to afford previously only because of the ACA.

It was as if she had been brainwashed by listening to right wing radio. That was her source of info.
