"I can't tell a lie" is from George Washington, not Lincoln, Donald Trump!!!

This is driving me crazy. Idiotic supporters of Trump are claiming that he scored a "knock-out" by telling Hillary (after she mentioned the Lincoln film) that she is a liar, unlike Abe Lincoln, who said that he "could never tell a lie." The problem is that the phrase "I can't tell a lie" is from the popular "Chopping down the Cherry Tree" story that is associated with George Washington NOT LINCOLN. This was driving me crazy yet none of these commentators have corrected it yet. It once again shows that Trump has no idea what he is talking about, as usual.

The cherry tree story is part of the (huge) mythology surrounding Washington.
