2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumCan someone tell me why Hillary Clinton has a likability problem?
To me, she comes across as angelic and like the coolest mom in the whole world. The decency, warmth and intelligence just radiate off her. It's all just e-mails right?

(19,066 posts)CNN hit showed her favorability rating at 55-44 positive. I agree, she appears very likable.
The thing with Hillary that the Cons fear the most is that they know she's going to be an outstanding president who gets amazing things done.

(1,350 posts)It's been created. It started when she was first lady. She tried to get something big done with healthcare. The first lady is to be seen, not heard. Think Laura Bush tackling literacy. Hillary started getting hated on for that and they (reich wing) kept spinning it bigger and bigger by creating hearings and bullshit to bring her down. Michelle Obama has also gotten a lot of hatred. She's trying to, gasp, improve nutrition in schools. How awful!!
It also doesn't help that they have D's behind their name. reich wingers hate all things Democratic. Doesn't matter how much good these remarkable women do (or try to do). They'll be hated regardless. How many of us hated on Laura Bush? It's so stupid.

(6,133 posts)She said she isn't like Tammy Wynette stand by your man...and does her own work, way back then, and the hate never stopped.
Rush and his ilk has brainwashed several generations of haters.
She's done nothing to deserve the hate, but it's been there a long time. I think she is the best candidate and the worst. The best for her abilities, and the worst for how stupid has taken over.

(16,160 posts)With Mom, you have to try harder and be better because she's way ahead of your bullshit and isn't putting up with it. This pisses some people off no end.
Hillary also has a do-gooder aspect which also pisses some people off enormously.
Your question reminded me of article, "No One Likes Meg", about the book "Little Women"
http://avidly.lareviewofbooks.org/2016/07/18/no-one-likes-meg/
Literally no ones favorite little woman is Meg. This is because Meg is the most womanly of the little women, and no one actually likes women. Meg is mom jeans. Meg is minivans. Meg is Hillary Clinton.
Put differently, Meg is the little woman who was most responsible for following the rules, and also the most rewarded by the rules, and so she followed all the rules, and she came to embody the rules, which is what womanly women do, and so, when people think of Meg (or Hillary), they just think, ugh, rules.

(12,448 posts)It's nothing new for them. When they compare Trump and Clinton, they ALWAYS point out that they are the "two least-liked candidates" in the history of the U.S. world.
Repeat something often enough, even if untrue, people will begin to believe it.

Heres Why Headlines Stating Hillary Clinton Is As Unpopular as Trump Are Bogus
http://www.politicususa.com/2016/08/31/headlines-showing-hillary-unpopular-trump-bogus.html
She hit high points (1) as First Lady during the scandal when she stood by Bill who had "done her wrong", and again (2) when she was Secretary of State.
Hillary does not have an innate likability problem, she's just at a low point now.
pnwmom
(108,980 posts)women can't have those qualities AND be likable.
She's been criticized ever since she arrived in the Arkansas Governor's office, daring to use her MAIDEN NAME. She finally gave up and adopted the name Clinton.
Then she got to the White House and she dared to think she could have a real job there, that used her law degree. She said she didn't want to just bake cookies. And they gave her hell for that.

Sexism from both genders.
Thank goodness there is less of that now than there was a long time ago. Or I should say it's less acceptable to say it in public.
Another great observation by you pnwmom.
I hope you enjoy a great week.
Hopefully we won't have to listen to this horseshit from Donald much more.
And like I always did for President Obama I will stand up for a President Clinton too.

(101 posts)You can just imagine the things I hear about Hillary from the men I'm most near. I suppose it's the constant noise from the right wing media, and of course there are lots of men my age that just don't like a strong woman. They will never admit their insecurities.
Utah_liberal
(101 posts)but still intends to vote for Hillary because he's Union, and realizes Republicans are so Damaging to Unions. He calls it " Voting your paycheck". So fortunately, Hillary will get a vote from this NRA member over a single issue he cares about more than his guns. In Utah though, it's unlikely any ones vote is going to have an impact on the electoral vote in this deep red state.

I think her "likability problem," like so much else thrown against her by the media and right wing bloggers, is made up for and by people whose political agenda does not fit with hers.
On the other hand, however, Trump would probably be in correct in assuming he would not be welcome at future White House Correspondents' Dinners.
