2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumPaul Krugman on Trump's impeachable offense:
Trump pledged tonight to commit an impeachable offense.
Let's remember that there were three articles of impeachment against Nixon. One of them was Article II (Abuse of Power) and that is the one Trump pledged to commit when he is elected. He pledged to use the Oval Office for a vendetta against Hillary.
don't have link; it was from the comments on Robert Costa's story about the four "rape" victims appearance at the debate

The pledge, however, stuck with many as a particularly terrifying statement.

(11,833 posts)He treats the rule of law with the same contempt he has for anyone different from him.
He probably blames the Clintons for 'not changing the system' just like he tried to blame Hillary for his failure to pay taxes.

"I mean I'll make sure her actions are investigated and, if she is convicted of any crime, that she serves the proper sentence."
(And, to be honest, weren't we all hoping Obama would prosecute Dubya? If he had done so, would that have been an impeachable offense?)
The key difference here is that I doubt that's the meaning coming from someone who admires his BFF Vlad for being a "strong leader."

(9,760 posts)he will abuse the hell out of power. We can see from his public conduct that he can't and doesn't believe he should have to control himself, won't follow simple rules of civility, doesn't believe in fair play (at least not for others.) He certainly won't be constrained by some silly little thing like the Constitution or the rule of law.
And the RWers who were having melt downs about how President Obama was a dictator simply for daring to be the president are perfectly fine with this.
