Trump lurks behind Clinton during the second presidential debate.
In the most literal sense, no woman could relate to Hillary Clinton Sunday night as she stood on the presidential debate stage. Yet somehow, every woman could.
Clinton showed up prepared to act how women are taught we need to in order to prove ourselves in male-dominated space: She came armed with facts, kept her composure as to not seem emotional, and forced a smile when there was nothing to smile about. The democratic nominee was met by a man (if you could call him that) who interrupted her constantly to mansplain topics he knows nothing about, lost his temper when his ego was bruised, made light of his own rape-y comments, and lurked behind her intimidatingly as to imply: This is a mans world, youre just livin in it.
Honestly, what women hasnt been there?
Here are 30 tweets from women who knew exactly how Clinton felt Sunday night:

Interesting to see Donald Trump do live onstage what so many women have reported: getting in your space, trying to physically intimidate you

(12,321 posts)He says nothing of substance, just babbling, incoherent words connected by nothing.
Trump reinforced that the 2005 video shows him as he truly is. He knows no boundaries when it comes to behavior, words, and personal space.

It cannot be overstated how damaging this must be for him with women (excluding, of course, those infected with 'Trump fever.'

As soon as the Town Hall was finished and the pundits started trying to hand it to Trump, I immediately (as I'm sure many women did) detected a disconnect with what I was hearing commentators say and what I was seeing with my women friends across social media. Then I began to see it on television too - Nicole Wallace, in particular, saying she'd call 9-11 if a huge person crept up and loomed over her like that.
My SO (who is very liberal) was saying he thought Trump did better than last time, but I couldn't agree - it was as if we weren't watching the same thing. In the first debate, I was not a fan of the split screen. I wanted people to see Trump's body language. For the Town Hall, I think a lot of women did see his body language and I think the reaction to it caught some male journalists by surprise. They were describing what seemed to be a completely different event.
Then the polls started coming in, and the numbers, I think, backed up what a lot of us saw.

(83,773 posts)His body language tells us all we need to know about the man and that is truly frightening.

(6,819 posts)Using the words "lurking" and "stalking" and "creepy". We've seen it and lived it. Intimidating behavior. In my past professional life, when suit jackets were popular, my colleagues and I would remind each other to wear black or navy blue power suits when attending certain meetings with mansplaining sexists.

(20,219 posts)Men didn't relate to the threat that tDump made himself.
Jeeeeezzzzzussssss, he was purposely making it as blatant as its possible to be. But, NOPE, MEN DON'T GET IT.
Men don't listen when we tell them what we experience, and look! Even when it's right in front of them live, they DON'T GET IT. They don't empathize.
Thankfully this live footage of a dangerous predator circling a woman like a shark circles chum is grist for a mill that needs to do some grinding--publicly.

(30,813 posts)And those are the only kind of men I allow to populate my life.
The pigs who would like nothing better than to grab your crotch are NOT the norm.
(On edit) Actually, my husband made a remark during this too. Something about how he hoped Secret Service had frisked him on the way in.

(20,219 posts)When you try to point out everyday sexisms. Guys who don't fall into the outlier group of pig crotchgrabbers.
I've only seen a very few men who actually get it so fully that they speak out as forcefully as a woman. I'm thinking of a gay black man who posts powerful commentary online.
The majority of men I've met may or may not listen, but they always minimize and argue against my comments about how it is to be a woman and be talked over, mansplained to, intimidated, ripped off, dismissed. They'll mansplain what great feminists they are and how they know more about it than you, your viewpoint is wrong. (yes, I've had to stop hanging with that friend.)
tDump was blatant enough that few people could miss it; and your husband was with you. But I noticed comments above saying that there were male pundits admiring tDump's Alpha Male posing. All-male groups would likely behave differently--studies have already shown that aggressive male behaviors are more likely to run out of control in male-only groups.
I would bet that aside from real progressives, many men didn't identify with what Hilary must have felt like, or expand that to consider that every woman they know has experienced the "male threat".

(2,322 posts)...her situation last night has women across the country revisiting their own history of harrassment and abuse. In fact, they're sharing these incidents like crazy, linking them to what Hillary went through last night on that stage. They're totally identifying with her, and seeing Trump as nothing more than the creep he is.
The media pundits and right-wing spin isn't going to stop this avalanche; and it's going to make women voters turn their focus on republicans in general, I think, and how that party has been consistently dismissing and undermining women.
As for Trump, I'm not sure how many women he really had on his side (really on his side and not just saying it to please their husbands), but any woman who was wavering or uncertain or even didn't think she liked Hillary...he just lost them. Forever. A huge switch was flipped on last night. Hillary went from female candidate to American Hero. I predict voters heading out to elect her with determination and enthusiasm. It's no longer about "we can't let him win" it's about "we want her to win!"

(14,532 posts)who is not lying to themselves has been there.
To distract from his admission to sexual abuse, he stalks, leers over her shoulder and tries to intimidate her on stage.
Every woman who is not lying to themselves has known Trump is like this from day one.
At first it looked like he was trying to stay in the camera shot. Then I started watching his demeanor and was creeped the hell out.
