2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumDear Donald Trump: I played in the NFL. Here’s what we really talk about in the locker room.
Dear Donald Trump,
Last Friday, audio leaked of you making incredibly demeaning comments about women and bragging about sexual assault. When asked to justify your statements, you claimed that this was "locker room talk," and it's just how guys speak about women.
You're wrong, and only the type of wrong an over-tanned ham hock like yourself can accomplish, plummeting past the morass of gross incivility into the abyss of depraved sociopathy.
How do I know this? Simple. I was in an NFL locker room for eight years, the very definition of the macho, alpha male environment you're so feebly trying to evoke to protect yourself, and not once did anyone approach your breathtaking depths of arrogant imbecility. Oh, sure, we had some dumb guys, and some guys I wouldn't want to hang out with on any sort of regular basis, but we never had anyone say anything as foul and demeaning as you did on that tape, and, hell, I played a couple years with a guy who later turned out to be a serial rapist. Even he never talked like that.
Now, Donald, I'm sure you're wondering just what it is we talk about in a professional locker room, if we don't spend all our time regarding 50 percent of the population as mobile fuck receptacles eagerly awaiting our tiny-handed grasp on their love lapels. I shall educate you!
We talk about our families. We talk about our significant others, our children, and our parents. We talk about our fears that if a Hitler wannabe who can't even string together a coherent statement on domestic policy becomes president, what that might mean for those of us who are married to a member of a minority community, or are a member of a minority community, or have children going to schools where hopefully nobody screams racial epithets at them or tells them to go back to [insert foreign country they couldn't identify on a map here].

What locker rooms has Trump been going to? Normal people don't behave like him.

(12,814 posts)... how things are -- same as their domestic policies, gun policies, foreign policies, etc. He just knee-jerked an excuse based on what locker rooms are supposed to be like in his in-experienced opinion.
It's like Republicans base all their public and private beliefs (and excuses) on how things are portrayed in Hollywood movies, rather than how things really are in real life.
They've been doing this since at least Ronald Reagan, I think.

And let us not miss the point that Trump was not in a locker room when he made his vile comments, he was in a workplace. (Maybe I ought to make that a tagline.)

(40 posts)Mr. Trump has spoken these same words in a locker room
and in a bar and at a party and in a boardroom and at his weddings and in the bathroom and a car and anyplace else he found the need to establish himself the superior to the listener. This is like the country club secret everyone knows about but doesn't talk about in public.I can only imagine how many men (even some women) have heard the words.
It is so interesting to me he would ever find it necessary to impress this Bush guy and a bus full of handlers. It is like he is preparing for the "hit" and junior is assessing the target. You know the rest of the story
It is so depressing to see the total lack of humanity.
As my football coach once said (in a locker room),
"Son, you can't polish a brick, the harder you rub the duller it gets"

Wow! I never thought I'd hear a football player condemn this sort of injustice.
Kluwe truly is a man of conscience!

(10,908 posts)In my fraternity, we had one clown who kept, ha ha, repeating that line, in a sing-songy way. Over and over again. Year after year. (He told me I had the face of a horse's ass when I didn't find him funny. Sorry, no pics on my Profile Page).
I struggled to think of any other misogynistic outpouring from my fraternity days, and can't (fortunately) come up with anything else. Maybe 80 men total passed through my fraternity in my years there. So 1 out of 80. Too bad (or sad) that Trump is one of those 1-out-of-80 fuckheads.

(114 posts)After hearing Donald's verbal excrement, I reflected on being a guy and so confirm Chris' succinct description. I will say that guys will discuss a woman in terms of a romantic tryst, as woman my talk about an evening with Brad Pitt. But that aside, the 'I am a star' and can do what I want and 'She was married' but I still tried to get her. Those go far over the line of guy talk and fall into predator. The sulking, stalking, figure of Trump at the last debate, just confirm that analysis. Thank you Chris for your post.
