Stupid and contagious: What if Donald Trump is not “dumbing down” and actually is this dumb?

Is it all an act? More likely, Trump really has the mind of a fourth-grader (apologies to those in fourth grade)
Cody Cain

The conventional wisdom is that Donald Trump is intentionally “dumbing down” his rhetoric in order to appeal to low-information voters, or, as Trump calls them, the “poorly educated.”

Trump’s messages are indeed aimed quite low. The language and content of one of Trump’s debates during the Republican primary season was scientifically analyzed and determined to be at the fourth-grade level. One of his public news conferences was determined to be at the third-grade level.
Not that we needed scientific confirmation — Trump’s over-simplicity is obvious. Just consider his signature issue: “Let’s build a wall to keep out the bad guys.” While this may make sense to some fourth-graders, it makes no sense to sophisticated adults.

he conned 40% of the country - amazing. don't respect the person but that feat does need to be respected.

unfortunately for him, that's all he is...a high level con man...

He has a very limited vocabulary and can't even form a simple declarative sentence. His mind is too undisciplined for anything about him to be studied or posed. He is what he seems, a boorish vulgar over-privileged old man.

sounds intelligent. The way he answers questions is 50% dodging but the other 50% is his inability to string thoughts together. Who is so stupid as to not at least try to prepare for a debate when running for leader of the free world?
