You Must view this clip..... Obama is spot on!During his speech tonight at an event to help Ted Strickland win his Senate race against Rob Portman, President Obama went on an extended rip of the Republican Party for their choice of nominee.
The president laid out his case by first pointing at Republicans for being completely obstinate throughout the full eight years of his presidency, concluding that they built the party that nominated Trump.
"He didn't build the building himself, but he just slapped his name on it and took credit for it," Obama snapped.
And so it went. Mocking Republicans for nominating a guy who admires Vladimir Putin and says things "no decent human being thinks, much less says, much less does," the president was relentless.

(15,289 posts)I'm glad Obama isn't mincing words about what the Republicans are these days. It's about time that everyone understands Trump didn't just parachute in from out of the blue. It was a long, steady calculated march to where the GOP is now. But where was this guy the first few years of his presidency when all he wanted to do was play nice with them?

(1,779 posts)he tried to ignore it and the MSM was able to blame him for the gridlock in congress.
I sure support his "naming and shaming" of the Republicans now. It can put the focus on the obstructionist Republican leadership and the blame clearly rests with them.

(12,051 posts)but chose not to. I think he will regret it. I know I do. We needed someone to voice the truth from the beginning.

(129,304 posts)No he could not. Nearly half of this country considers him nothing but a n****r. He would not have been re-elected in 2012, they would have started impeachment hearings with little sympathy from "independents" who unfortunately are needed to help swing elections our way, and the media would have had a field day and gone hog-wild against him, notably because the left has little or no media to counter it.
He and his family have always been held to a different standard and he had to establish very firmly and publicly, that he made every attempt to "govern". That way, the majority of this country who neither frequents DU nor pays much attention to politics, fully understand who is at fault when it comes to "gridlock". It's the long game.

(12,051 posts)a normal President, with his beautiful family, in the White House for the past 8 years. I cried tears of joy when he was elected and re-elected. And I hope you are correct about the long game, because we don't have much "long" left.
BumRushDaShow
(129,304 posts)he and his family had to be as close to "perfect" as could be so as not to give anyone any "ammunition" meant that the only way the other side felt they could win was to completely manufacture a fictional "Kenyan-born, 'Muslin', Commie-Socialist-Fascist-Bill-Ayers-lovin'-Hitler" who would:
1.) Take their guns away
2.) Round them up and put them in FEMA camps
3.) Institute Sharia Law
4.) Revoke the 22nd amendment to serve a 3rd term
5.) Whatever else Alex Jones promotes as bullshit conspiracies
while at the same time our own side swore that he was nothing but an "Authoritarian 'Turd Way' RW-humping DINO centrist who was just like Bush" and who would:
1.) Privatize SS after instituting chained CPI
2.) Bomb Iran
3.) Approve the Keystone pipeline
4.) Appoint Larry Summers as head of the Fed
5.) Keep all of the Bush tax cuts in place
This abject hatred eventually caused the GOP to foam at the mouth and propel a Donald Drumpf to be their nominee to save the world, with Reince Prebius leading the way. And this is what happens when you put them in charge -

(15,289 posts)Bullies don't understand anything but a punch back in the nose. Obama came to office amidst the worst economic crisis since the Depression. That was the cudgel he could, and should, have used on any and all obstructionists. Instead, he thought he could somehow win over the people who were determined to hate him and settled for a lot less than he could have had. IMHO, his first two years were a significant reason for the 2014 mid-term losses Dems sustained.
Despite this, I'm thrilled he's finally calling a spade, a spade.

(1,907 posts)I really like seeing him out and campaigning for Hillary and down ticket democrats. Even during some of the stressful times he has a clarity and knowledge that to me is reassuring.
Side note I wonder what he will be doing after he steps down. All of the democrats after being President even Vice Presidents are active and picked a cause to champion. A big shout out to President Carter for his work with Habitat for Humanity. (repubs you don't see that. Says a lot about them.) I am sure he will take a well deserved break after this. But also sure both Michelle and Barack Obama will be out there.

(43,249 posts)We have a slew of well-respected name brand incumbents on the
campaign trail, each targeting a specific audience, a cacophony
coordinated against these devious GOP forces of obstruction
I think we are about to kick it in high gear and sprint toward the
finish line. That Obama would go for it is clearly a signal the entire
Democratic Party and followers are on the same page. It is rare for
an incumbent president to campaign for his party. Bill Clinton tried it
in 1994 and it fizzled. Here we have a different ball game.

Hey Repubs, how's it feel to be just another one of The Donald's cheesy projects? Sold your souls to the devil, didn't you?
