Because, you know, cats are a-holes.

My cat was a big supporter of Bernie who came around and is all with Her!

(146,324 posts)They'd let Drumpf know right away about that if that pussy-grabber grabbed them. He'd draw back a mangled, bloody hand. Handburger, in fact.
I know few pussycats who will tolerate being grabbed. If you want to pick them up, you have to move slowly and with their consent. Grabbing pussy is right out with them.

(61,690 posts)Cats are Democrats. They favor a welfare state that assures food and warm, safe sleeping spaces. They believe in state-sponsored family leave so that more people are around during the day to feed them. Cats are in favor of flexible work hours and telecommuting - more opportunities to lie on warm keyboards.
Cats are nanny state all the way.

(14,337 posts)humans who they see as a threat to them. Definitely not all strangers. Some strangers they will jump in their laps. We may not be able to understand why, but I will leave that up to them. I myself have DOGS run up to me from across streets barking, wagging their tails, and sitting up. I will pet them. The Cat Lady has no idea why. They can sense human animal lovers whatever species they might prefer?

(2,322 posts)Overwhelming evidence, I think, that your map is a Trump-worthy lie! Fact-checking proves it. Cats run from Trump. And run towards Clintons. They have excellent instincts. Especially, given the examples, black and white kitties. Maybe because they know that opposite colors are stronger together?

(115,806 posts)Cats also lived in the White House during the administrations of Hayes, Theodore Roosevelt, Coolidge, Wilson, JFK, Ford, Carter, and G.W. Bush.

(2,322 posts)...Thank you for the education. But I'll still argue that Socks was the most famous I can't recall ever seeing a picture of Ford's, Carter's or Bush's cat. But Socks....
Now there was a White House cat.

(14,855 posts)Most of them are pretty lovable.
I've encountered a few that seemed like major a-holes, though, and I don't believe they behaved that way because of how their owners treated them.
Moonwalk
(2,322 posts)...don't understand the problem. The owners don't treat them badly, but the cat hasn't enough areas of its own, or scratching posts or isn't being played with, and the owners just don't realize this. There was a great show called "my cat from hell" where a "cat whisperer" came to help owners with their horrible kitties. Time and again the fix was pretty easy. Give the cats a place by a window, or play with them for fifteen minutes each morning, and suddenly the cat is right as rain.
In one instance, the poor cat was half-blind, but the owners didn't realize this. All they knew was it kept lashing out at them. It was afraid, not mean. When the owners learned this, and got into the habit of speaking when approaching the cat, so as not to surprise it, the cat became super loving and friendly. Cats are less a-hole-ish if you understand what they need and give them that.

(14,855 posts)I had a friend who was "hippy-like" in his laid back attitude, at least personality-wise. His wife was the same way. Their cat would periodically claw their legs out of the blue. I visited them and the cat certainly wasn't very "sociable," to say the least. They seemed to care for it well, but maybe there was indeed some kind of health problem they didn't know about (beyond mental). I think they said it was a stray kitten they took in many years before.
He also told me the cat would crap outside of the litter box, despite the litter box being clean. He at least didn't act all that upset about it (since the litter box was on linoleum anyway).
I guess it was a good thing that they owned that cat because I don't think I could tolerate that behavior very long. I'd try to give it away to someone more tolerant.
I know there's some genetic aspects to animal personality, so I sometimes wonder if some animals (and people) are born with some bad dispositions.
Interesting video (about foxes in Russia):
Moonwalk
(2,322 posts)...problem the first, the clawing, could have been from either (or any) of these: (1) not enough scratching posts (people think cats need only one, but really they need at least two, in two different areas); and also the right type. I have one cat that only scratches upward--table-leg scratching post works best for her. The other likes flat types, standing on it and scratching that way. (2) they weren't playing with the cat enough; (3) the cat might have benefited from a second, companion cat. Owners need to remember that cats think owners are "cats" and expect cat reactions from them. So quick-claw attacks like that are often: "Ha! I've attacked! Chase me!" Which the other cat would do--thus satisfying the cat's need for that kind of play.
Problem the second (litter box)...that could have been the litter used or it might have been an actual physical problem. Or it might have been related to the above problem. Bored cats can show their annoyance in such ways. One of the "Cats from Hell" episodes had a cat whose owner kept dressing it up in costumes, much to its evident annoyance. The cat didn't claw or hiss at the owner, it endured being dressed up. But it kept crapping outside the box. Once the owner stopped forcing kitty to wear costumes, kitty used the litter box In that instance, I gotta tell you, I was all on the side of the cat.

(14,855 posts)I haven't seen many cats that would like that!
My friend showed me a block of wood that the cat had severely scratched (and gnawed) over the years. I think he said they'd bought it a scratching post in the past, but it kept using that wood after it got started. I didn't think of it then, but I hope that cat didn't ingest any splinters!
There might have indeed been some scratching post issues too.
I don't really know enough details about their cat. He was a co-worker and we drifted apart after we worked at different places.
