2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumI have a feeling the Trump campaign is going to cook up a fake accuser.
Then they will have evidence to disprove the accusation and they will claim all the others are false as well.
Not sure how best to deal with this but I suspect its coming.

(12,253 posts)The way he referred to "second amendment people" and "Russians please hack" I heard him ask his base at his rally why "nobody in the media has reported sexual harassment charges against Obama for the past 8 years."
Looks like he might take that bait. Again!

(364 posts)Have an imposter accuse Trump and then also plant/fake an email in some clinton campaign staff planning the plant ... Straight out of some fantasy novel, but could happen.

(15,696 posts)And the news orgs running the stories have run disclaimers if they haven't confirmed the stories independently.
I'm not saying it couldn't happen; it's just that every reporter has been extremely careful so far.

(5,648 posts)You don't run a story discrediting a Presidential candidate and a litigious SOB like Trump unless you have your facts nailed to the wall by numerous sources. If Trump were to sue after losing the election, and was successful, can you imagine what the payout would be?
However, on the other side I have trouble imagining Trump opening up for discovery on this topic. However, the media putting out the story has to be prepared for the worst case possibility. You can bet that not only were the editors involved in determining whether to run the stories, their lawyers were as well.
They absolutely have to believe that their stories will stand up in court.

(55,894 posts)So IF Trump tries that, it will require more than one person lying.
Edit- and as other DU'ers have mentioned, it's difficult to keep stories straight when more than one person is involved in deception. Especially under pressure.

(4,490 posts)I'm not too worried though because of the things Trump has said and continues to say every week. He may not even remember every woman he harrassed and assaulted. He's confessed things in a general manner already, and I don't think he's even capable of responding to even a fake allegation in a way that wouldn't further alienate people.
