It is totally over. If Trump wins more than 240 electoral votes, I will eat a bug.

Still, we have to GOTV like we're losing this election, but if Sam Wang (totally under-rated, IMO) says it's over...it's over.

(14,174 posts)Yes yes most DUers will just brush through this OP as a brief celebration that things are looking good. But FFS why play with fire?
The worst message to be sent out now is that Hillary has it in the bag. No matter how much you "just know it".
Right now a Democratic President's elected term runs out Nov. 8th. There is no successor to Obama decided yet with a looming fascist who will say and do anything to win hovering over the White House. That is the reality. This is not the time to encourage those who may not be quite as active in the political scene to take her win for granted.

(3,660 posts)Never understood that hair on fire pantswetting about complacency. There is simply no real precedent for such fears being grounded in reality. Not only do message boards not determine ad spend or ground game organization, but any effect on turnout is likely to be the opposite of the one so dreaded. Are you more likely to want to take part in a certain victory or a certain defeat? Did Republican turnout suffer in 2010 or 2014 when anyone with an IQ into the mammalian range knew they would get major gains? Fuck no but ours did! Turnout neither suffers nor gains with certainty of result at the state level either. Solidly blue MN leads the way with only IA as a sort-of battleground n the top 10. Razor-edge FL and laughable certainty DC vote at the same rate in the upper turnout range as do Nevada and Kansas in the lower. This pseudo-wise "campaign like you're behind" schtick is valid enough...for people in Robbie Mook's org chart. Not for run of the mill voters, who if anything respond better when they are ahead.
