The Power Of Disavowing Innappropriate Comments

John McCain corrected his supporters when they chanted incorrect comments about Obama. I have a lot of respect for him.

Politicians should have a moral and civic responsibility to not let false information fuel their parties. It is the reason why the Republican Party has fallen apart.

Ultimately, when you let the "little" things slide by, they pile up into a matter of national security.

Although I don't respect McCain myself, I did applaud his remarks about Obama. Morals and civic responsibility left the republican party a long time ago.

Welcome to DU, Greg.

cannot be corrected. I bet a million dollars that that lady McCain assured that Obama was not a muslim believes Obama is a muslim and will tell anyone who will listen to her that Obama is a muslim. Facts do not matter to them.

This is the beauty of my retreat into "so what." I don't even try to correct them or to point out the lies they believe. I grant them their nutjobbery . It truly maddens them if you simply refuse to get exercised over the shit they spew, and their wrath is magnificent, a joy to behold.

We're going to win; they're going to lose. Let them suck on that for a while.

We need two strong parties that work together.

When one party is so fractured or so extreme, there is no way the two parties can work together. Less work gets done.

And even if we win this election, there are going to be some big hurdles to get past, due to the polarization between the two parties that exists.

I'm deeply concerned about how Trump and his supporters are going to handle their loss. I don't believe it is going to be very graceful.

I hate to be cynical.

would ever be able to work with anyone who did not believe as they do?

I agree with you that it's important to have two parties who respect each other, who can compromise in matters that are important, but I don't think the Trump base that you're worried about could ever be one of those parties.

My hope is that after the shock of the loss they will understand that the majority of citizens do not believe as they do; I sincerely do not believe that even the fringiest fringe of Trump supporters are capable of causing more than minor rioting, etc., if at all.

7. And That's Why Moderates Have A Responsibility

Moderates need to keep their party and their followers in line.

I agree with you that Trump supporters are probably too excited over a lot of false information that has been allowed to propagate through numerous media outlets. I don't know who can change their minds at this point.

If there is more responsibility in the Republican Party, the Alt-Right movement will dissipate.

Allowing the horrendous flaws in character and the tremendous amount of false information has destroyed their party, and made it all the more difficult for a "two – party" system to function.
