donnie is a disease. here's how you can tell: how much time do we talk about him instead of hillary?

speaking as someone who has mental illness in the family (no, not me! honest!), one of the first things you learn -- at least, once you are ready to learn -- is that the normal reaction is to let the mental illness completely dominate all family discussions.

but that's because the mental illness preys on normal reactions. if you want any semblance of a normal life, you simply can't function that way. you have to learn to ignore that person, that illness, when you can and lead a normal life.

but what have we done this election? hillary has been the front-runner *the entire campaign*. she is headed to a landslide or near landslide victory. she is around 90% likely to be the next president of the united states. her thought on key issues *really matters*.

donnie, meanwhile, won't be elected dog-catcher after getting tromped in a few weeks. he's a political zero. ok, he'll do trump tv or whatever, he'll have some notoriety within the right-wing bubble, but for the reality-based rest of us, he's nothing. yet we *still* pore over every stupid tweet of his.

it's time to forget about trump. gotv, of course, but we need to be hearing more from and about hillary!

"...you have to learn to ignore that person, that illness..."

No offense, but we have a serious problem with ignoring mental illness already and it seems to make the problem, in whole, worse.

I know what you are trying to say, but ... We need to deal with the problem, not hope it disappears, at least regarding mental illness.

No reply necessary, not trying to start a fight here.

compliance is, of course, a big part of the problem for many mental illnesses.

donnie clearly isn't about to cooperate with any treatment program, e.g., and he's not unusual in that respect.

my brother only stayed on a program when it was court-mandated. having dispensed with that, he's now lost in the wilderness, whereabouts unknown.
