2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumI am truly in awe of Hillary Clinton.
Honestly, I don't think I have the stomach to watch this circus show tonight. I may be able to do it after a couple of drinks, and I'll probably need to be doing or watching something else in the background, but it's just so infuriating.
That said, the thought of standing there on stage with him for 90 minutes is unthinkable. And Hillary has already done it twice before.
I'll be the first to admit that I always liked and admired Hillary, but never more or less than countless other good Democrats. In 2008, I supported her by default, but quickly changed to Obama after I realized he was building something special. This year, I supported her all the way through, but a lot of that was because I just never saw Bernie (who I've always admired) as being especially effective as a politician, legislator, or executive.
But this is different now. Seeing her perform in the last two debates, and looking at those performances against everything else she's faced for the last 30 years, is so inspiring. She's tireless, unflappable, intelligent beyond belief, and - as her doppleganger on SNL said this weekend - made of steel.
I'm damn proud to say that I'm with her.

(40,212 posts)I spent a long time not being particularly in awe of Hillary. I was always ambivalent about her. My opinion began to change after watching her stellar presentation during the atrocity called the Bengazi hearing. I watched all 11 hours and came away thinking that this was a very special woman in many ways.
The onslaught of vitriol that she has withstood with such grace and dignity is inspiring.

(30,058 posts)re-elected in 1996, happy to see Hillary elected in 2000 to the Senate. I supported her run in 2008 but was behind President Obama for his election in 2008 and 2012. It will be nice to see Hillary following President Obama as president, it will be good for America.

(81,340 posts)I first discovered, and rapidly came to admire, Hillary during the 1992 campaign. I had not heard of her before that. But I've been a huge fan of hers ever since. She had me at "I suppose I could have stayed home and baked cookies." I was totally gone, from that moment on.

(14,565 posts)Obama won only a few of them outright. Many were close, among the two dozen.
It didn't matter, given the degree of enthusiasm for Obama. On sites like this he was spun as the winner virtually every time.
Hillary was actually rusty in the early 2016 primary debates compared to her 2008 level.

(81,340 posts)She IS amazing! The stamina, and the fortitude, and such composure. I couldn't do that! Hold up to that kind of punishment and persecution? Which she's actually done since 1992 - that I know of. That's 24 years of being investigated from the skin under her heels all the way up to her scalp! And she's held up. I can't think of too many more women - hell, more PEOPLE - who could withstand a 24-year-long inquisition.
A third stellar audition for being able to stand up to Putin, the North Koreans, the Iranians, and Netanyahu - probably with one hand tied behind her back.

(14,579 posts)proudly casting my vote FOR Hillary Clinton, NOT against Donald Trump. She will be a fine president.
As to Trump...anyone who refuses to say he will support the outcome of a presidential election is not only unfit to serve as our president, but has proven that he cares NOTHING for everything this nation is supposed to stand for.
