(17,164 posts)We have Giant Gippsland Earthworms. The buggers can be up to a foot long. Very cool and useful for the plants.
Hortensis
(58,785 posts)startled if I turned one of those up in my garden. Sounds like they at least also produce lots of USEFUL worm castings.
Whatta jerk. Trump held to the pattern -- kept it together initially, then, well, just too much hostility that had to be indulged. Trump also revealed that, like democracy itself, he's just too disordered to get, or at least care, what the dinner was about.

Hillary just threw some subtle shade at Trump's father, who was one of the racists who persecuted Al Smith & other Catholics #AlSmithDinner

(8,377 posts)Some of Hillary's stuff was pretty hard-hitting and got some groans. If I were advising here, I would have said stay above that. But at least they were in the form of a joke and weren't offensive to anybody but Trump.
Trump's stuff just became a series of nasty comments, not just at Hillary, but offensive to the whole room.
It is relevant. If the many is too stupid to realize you don't make offensive comments about Catholics at a Catholic fund-raising event, this man certain has no business representing the country on the world stage.
(And just to be clear, I wouldn't say that kind of stuff about Catholics in ANY setting. Why does this man have so much hate? I am an atheist and I can still respect and appreciate the contribution of the Catholic church. Why does this man just assume everybody hates blacks, Mexicans, Muslims, Catholics, and Rosie O'Donnell?)

I've never witnessed a speaker being booed at the Al Smith dinner before. Ever. He was that terrible!

(14,249 posts)A welcome break from the campaign.
This was outrageous - and an insult to the organizers who expect their event to be above partisan politics.

(19,564 posts)I've watched about a half dozen of these over the years. They're a charity event, and entertaining. Also, a relief after the stress of the political season.
What Trump did tonight was none of those things, and they booed and heckled him! That was a first for me.
Cha

I didn't think he was funny at all. He's fucking boring.
Gawd he can barely fucking read.
Making a joke out of Russia hacking the DNC and assange leaking like a pisser.. Wish someone had mentioned Ecuador cut his ass off.. "pretending not to hate Catholics".. "given to her by Donna Brazile!" Stupid.
Boo! .. bet he thought they were Booing Hillary
God he's stupid.. like a big ogre up there.. Hillary is so Cool!
I meant Hillary being so Cool from just her face the audience. Can you imagine what they have to say about psycho in the privacy of their home tonight?!
Cha
(297,265 posts)Clinton followed him, with remarks the audience received more favorably. She was more self-deprecating, as is the tradition, and delivered a few gentle pokes to Trump.
Clinton made fun at her own flaws and campaign controversies, from her use of a private email server, criticisms of her personality and reticence to talk to the press.
Im the life of the party of every party I attend ― and Ive been to three, she said.
snip//
A few of Clintons zingers:
Getting through these three debates with Donald has to count as a miracle.
Trump looks at the Statue of Liberty and sees a 4.
I have now stood next to Donald Trump for longer than any of his campaign managers.
Donald is as healthy as a horse. You know, the one Vladimir Putin rides around on.
How is Barack going to get past the Muslim ban?
Donald thought I used some sort of performance enhancer [during the debates]. Actually I did. Its called preparation.
Donald will tell us after the benediction whether he accepts this dinner is over. He has to wait and see.
More to the story..

Divine Discontent
(21,056 posts)full on hate like he was at a rally, and said some really cruel 'jokes', he is allowed to be cutting, like she was on some stuff, but he went overboard saying she hated Catholics, for example. We have to understand he's going to say things that we don't like, but he actually went beyond the line and I just stopped watching him.
I did watch the Hillary clip, and she was good, and treaded the line a few times, and I'll give the dark one credit, he smiled a lot at her jokes, and clapped often. So, maybe he just doesn't get how awful he is, lol. I can't wait for the election to be over, like Hillary says towards the end of her jokes before her positive take on the dinner.
BlueMTexpat
(15,369 posts)out all right. But then a switch seemed to flick on (or off) and he went into campaign attack mode.
Part of the generic problem is that RW "humor" is never self-deprecating or witty. It is rarely humorous. It is largely mean and nasty, Whoever prepared Trump's later remarks went full mean and nasty.

(28,079 posts)I did try to Google the people in the picture but Al Smith IV didn't turn up with some of the other names. (Though my Googling skills seem to be lacking sometimes.)
BTW I just heard on the local Progressive talk show (AM 950/Minneapolis) that Al IV apparently has issued a statement that Catholics did not find Trump's comment about Hillary pretending she doesn't hate us (I say us even though I'm lapsed) appropriate in any way.

Maybe Roy Cohn would have been worse. That's the only name I would nominate. Even from a casket Roy Cohn might have been able to look up from his notes occasionally.
Donald Trump will live the rest of his life with Obama's belittling words and Hillary's mocking words bouncing between his ears. Well earned.

(1,907 posts)That is what is really stupid. It took a team to write that. That was the total brain power of the dipshit donnie campaign.
Now I see why it was said earlier in the campaign the actual rich people wouldn't invite him to charity functions. Not only how he acts, but he never actually donated when there.

It was sickening. I think he destroyed the event. Seriously.
