Interesting Pic - Trump & Hillary Pray with Cardinal Last Night...

Got this in the email from People mag with the headline "Cardinal Timothy Dolan Reveals He Made Trump and Clinton Pray Together Before Charity Dinner ."

What struck me is how everyone has their heads down and eyes closed in prayer -- except for Mr. T. Wonder if he was like this for the whole prayer...

Here's the email headline & link to a story and video.

He is probably annoyed because all the others are praising God and Jesus and not him. But with cameras everywhere you'd think he'd at least have the sense to pretend to be praying, you know, just for the optics.

Usually when I'm 'subjected to prayer' I'm with my wife (devout) at some gathering.
Her church folks are nice people (Libs, most of them) and I don't need to be in their face about my beliefs.
That's just me.

the hypocrocy of someone who claims to be religious but doesn't pray when everyone else does.

People who aren't religious don't close their eyes or bow their heads.

How about we stop using whether he is really religious as a reason to dislike him.

Even if he is an atheist is that a bad thing? And do you really believe every atheist politician is out? This is just ridiculous.

Many of the Democrats. There is no frickin' way the statistics we know about how many atheists there are in the country are completely off with politicians. There are atheist politicians that pretend to be religious so they can get elected. Perhaps he's another one.

Things like this just help reinforce religious privilege.

Trump claims to be religious and he courts the votes of religious people. The Al Smith Dinner is a charitable event sponsored by the Catholic Church; when Catholics and most other Christians pray they bow their heads and close their eyes. If Trump wants to be regarded as Christian for the purpose of attracting the votes of Christians it's just surprising that he didn't at least go through the motions. My guess is either that he's had so little exposure to any kind of church that he doesn't even know the protocol, or else that he thinks he's above all that prayer stuff.

around you are religious and you are in a situation where prayer is important to them. It doesn't hurt your atheism to just bow your head respectfully. And since Trump is the candidate of the religious right and claims to be religious, too, his hypocrisy really should be called out.

I think it is disrespectful when family or guest pray in my house.

They know I am an Atheist.

My mother is holding out that I will come around.

I don't attend any religious functions.

It would be respectful if I bowed my head in a church, but I don't

attend any church.

That is why I don't put myself in those situations.

I wish people would keep their religion in their homes, their place of worship,

and their private institutions.

I will not give validation to any religion or god.

Have a great weekend.

where I know prayer is likely.

In Trump's situation here, he was at a dinner with many priests and a lot of religious nonpriests, and the purpose of the dinner was to raise money for Catholic charities, so prayer was certainly bound to occur.

Also, it is very hypocritical of him to pretend to be religious

I don't think he has a religious bone in his body.

He worships The Donald, power, and money.

politics. However, since Trump has become the standard bearer for the religious rightwing fundamentalists, this image of him not praying should be shoved down their throats.

When I visit friends or family, like my Sicilian extended family, who are very religious, I always bow my had when they say a prayer--at dinner or for any other reason. It is just good manners, a matter of respecting something that is very important to them.

Since the occasion for this dinner had such a strong religious component to it, and since everyone else was bowing their heads, it was seriously bad manners for Trump to do this.

Like today's evangelical supporters, Trump is a Political Christian, not a Christian of faith.

The Donald who does not have to ask God for forgiveness.
