Newsday (LI, NY) endorses Hillary Clinton, separately un-endorses Trump

In 2012, the paper endorsed Mitt Romney.

Against that backdrop of uncertainty in this presidential election year, America has made it clear: It wants change. But that means real change — not change based on slogans, not change that can never happen. It wants change that alters people’s lives, change that can bridge divides.
You get that by electing someone with decades of public service and experience, someone who has laudable goals and will work relentlessly to achieve them with anyone who wants to get things done. We haven’t had a president enter office with that kind of resume in a long time.

That would be a change.

That’s why the nation should elect Hillary Clinton as president.

EDITORIAL
Donald Trump cannot be president. Here’s why

The flaw in Trump’s candidacy is that his best promises are fairy tales, but his worst attributes are real. He can’t bring back 1950s-style manufacturing jobs, immediately end illegal immigration or quickly squelch terrorism. But he would bring callous indifference and divisiveness to our society and furious, impetuous and ignorant leadership to the White House. Three times in debates with Hillary Clinton he tried to remain calm and presidential. Not once could he keep his cool for even 90 minutes.

Our leaders must address the needs Trump deftly identified. He has proved himself singularly incapable of doing so

And that should scare the living shit out of everyone.

our strong ticket and the separate slam on Trump-Pence.

Trump's debate performances were disastrous. He couldn't stay "presidential" for 20 minutes, let alone 90.

And he does not offer praise to what is good in others. It's all negative energy and dismissive and vulgar language.

I was surprised to see, therefore, that they endorsed that fool Mitt Romney in 2012.

Of course, when I was growing up, the Daily News was a right wing paper (read and applauded by my father), and that's obviously changed as well.

Long Island is, of course, a pretty right wing part of the country so it's not surprising that its newspaper moved in that direction since I left (decades ago).

The editorial is a little weak, focusing too much on the right wing talking points - it's just stupid to the extreme to take Bengazi even remotely seriously - but the conclusion is correct.

At this point, one would have to be Rupert Murdoch or worse to be stupid enough to believe that Trump is anything but a totally incompetent and vicious freak not even remotely qualified to be President of the United States.
