Question: Since Trump destroyed his own brand, can property owners sue for loss of value?

.

The fools who would buy Trump properties, thinking that his name offered some prestige and value to them, are now faced with a possible property devaluation. Add in the possibility that their association charges might rise to cover the costs of their re-branding efforts, and shame that some owners are now experiencing by owning said investments.

I wonder if Trump can be sued for personally destroying his "brand," which spreads to all the assets connected to it?

I probably could word this OP better, but I'm sure most will get the gist of what I am conveying.

The restaurant owners don't want to be associated with his hotel both because of his racist comments against Mexicans (one of the restaurants is Mexican-themed) and because of the damage Trump inflicted on the new hotel before it even opened.

That's an admittedly simplistic account, but accurate in the main.

It's an interesting question you raise. Where the restaurant operators see a potential loss of revenue, and want to withdraw before they lose bigly, buyers in Trump's properties have a similar financial interest in his maintaining the value of their investment. It will prove interesting, I'm sure, to see what happens after November 8. Trump's travails haven't yet begun to begin, I suspect.

Since Volkswagen destroyed its brand by cheating on emissions control, can Volkswagen owners sue for loss of value?

What is the expected minimum add-on value of brand identification? At what point are individuals who profit from "marketing" their names responsible for the effects of tarnished brands? I think of athletes who lose favor after their names are splashed all over expensive footwear or sportswear.

In Trump's case, I wonder what prompted anyone to invest in the Trump name in the first place. That brand was always phony and baseless. It seems to me that investors who bought the Trump name for their businesses did not do their homework and deserve the consequences of their poor investment.

The Trump brand name didn't experience a fall from grace. It was empty and flawed from the very start.

You can sue if you own a VW TDI, perhaps. This is why VW has already offered compensation to that class of VW owners.

There has been no appreciable loss in value for VW's non-diesel cars. So if you own one of those, there really isn't grounds for a lawsuit.

I simply do not trust that manufacturer to abide by the law. I ask myself, what else have they tried to get away with? What other corners have they cut?

His local partner for that project is Ratan Tata.

Ask yourself how much more South Asian business Trump will get after Mr. Tata has decided he's not worth the risk...
