2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumHow about a "No Early Voting In My State" thread?
Alabackward makes voting as difficult as possible.
Especially if you're NQW*.
NO early voting.
ONE day only!
A work day.
Photo ID required.
Absentee voting is unnecessarily complicated.
Welcome to 2016 Jim Crow.
*Not Quite White.

(62,444 posts)Same as above and in order to vote absentee, you have to jump through hoops as well.
Though I can say no lines. Vote at Skyline Middle School and no lines ever !

(62,444 posts)I've been voting at Linden Hill for years, but they apparently stopped using it as a polling place and it was changed to St. Phillips Lutheran Church. You know... that church on Kirkwood Highway between where the Almart used to be and that shopping center where Mr. Pizza and HoJos used to be. I thought it was weird, but I drove down there for the primary and the place was closed. At first, I thought I'd received a fake notice, until I saw a "we've moved to Limestone Road" sign. So now, it's another "used to be".

(82,383 posts)I've passed the brand new one on Limestone a few times.
Now I wonder what will happen with the original one. How to re-purpose a church? The church near Dickinson is now part of an office complex, so it can be done!

(5,070 posts)If you know beforehand that you cannot show up on that day, you have to vote absentee.

(14,858 posts)... and she acted appalled that it happens anywhere. "What if people change their minds?" was one of her questions. Lol. She's Jewish and voting for Clinton, by the way.
I replied that people could change their minds after election day too, and early voting is especially helpful for people who work long hours and might struggle to vote on November 8th.

(3,284 posts)Someone made a comment here earlier in which they said voting early is better in case you die before Nov.8. I never thought of it that way either, but it's a good point. At least you could part the world knowing you did your best for those left behind.
...although I wonder if Trump & Giuliani would consider that 'dead voter fraud'...
Buckeye_Democrat
(14,858 posts)... pointing to examples of people who voted and died before November 8th, trying to trick people into thinking it was voter fraud by leaving out details.
Limbaugh has been a "genius" at that kind of not-the-whole-truth deception.

(41,832 posts)You have to go to the courthouse in Tulsa, which is downtown, bad parking and really inconvenient unless you work downtown.
Beartracks
(12,821 posts)At least I did find where we could apply for an absentee ballot online. But I thought it could be returned by mail...?

(12,821 posts)No early voting. No voter ID. I always vote first thing in the morning so if anything happens to me, at least I voted.
Retrograde
(10,163 posts)My recently deceased mother received mail-in ballots for every election in her last 8 years. She had to demonstrate that she was disabled - and it helped that one of her children worked for the elections people and could work through the system.
New York has other peculiarities, like having the polls be open longer in some counties for primary elections, and the difficulty of getting one's party affiliation changed.

(4,931 posts)We have other peculiarities Toomey like cross endorsements. We have elected here whoring on every line. It is ridiculous. The voters have zero choice.

(4,723 posts)I would have voted by now if it were an option.

(15,859 posts)We have same day registration - so at least there's that.

(14,858 posts)Well, that's my local precinct. I voted early this time, so I had to drive downtown.

(9,275 posts)Fine by me, it's close to home and has a huge parking lot.
Most precincts here vote at schools, so the kids have off on Election Days as they don't trust "strange people" in the buildings.

Just like in NC and other states, the GOP doesn't even pretend any more... it is pure anti-democratic voter suppression
The Republican party hates democracy
GreenEyedLefty
(2,073 posts)Same as Alabama, although anyone can vote absentee.

Never had early voting.
Only November 8, a work day. Miss it? Tough luck.
Absentee with excuse only.

(95,337 posts)our entire states only needs about 3 hours for everyone eligible to vote.

(56,829 posts)Connecticut usually has pretty good turnout overall, but we don't have early voting. I've also lived in suburban CT my entire life and have never had to wait more than a few minutes to vote.
