The cries of Dont blame us for Trump are growing ever louder among Republicans, and Tuesday the Washington Post brings a one-two punch from the Republican women of CNN. Or, make that, the Republican women whove been somewhat sidelined at CNN as the network has highlighted devoted Trump supporters like Kayleigh McEnany and Scottie Nell Hughes. Its just terrible for them. Take poor Amanda Carpenter:
I want to ask the men leading the GOP some questions. Why didnt you defend women from this raging sexist especially after so many Republican women for so many years eagerly defended the party from charges of sexism? You must make us out for fools.
We defended the party from charges of sexism when it came to opposing equal pay and denying women control over their own bodies, and now for some reason the party wont defend us from misogyny. What could possibly have happened here? Carpenters not the only one:
Instead, they are asked to weigh in nightly on whether grabbing a womans genitals or groping someone on an airplane classifies as assault and opine on whether these things actually occurred.
Why cant I fulfill my dream of talking about denying health care to poor people and cutting taxes on the wealthy?
Obviously women like Cupp and Carpenter get credit for avoiding the shamelessness of McEnany and Hughes, but were talking like two bonus points on an otherwise failing exam. And lets not miss that what theyre doing here is trying to separate the real Republican Party from the party of Trump except that Trump is the real Republican Party. Hes the choice of the partys voters, and the partys leaders have stuck with him. He represents not a departure from the partys policies but a logical extension of them. And if Trump doesnt think women have the right not to be groped by him, well, the Republican Party has spent the last several years trying to force women to have medically unnecessary ultrasounds as one of the costs of making their own healthcare decisions. So lets not give the Cupps and Carpenters of the world one bit more credit than they deserve, okay?

And a few have openly fantasized about shooting Syrian refugees who are supposedly coming here to rape them. Conservative women gun nuts exist.

(6,929 posts)this time, whether male or female.....gets no sympathy from me. They chose party over ever possible decent and compassionate option. They chose the GOP over religious teachings and a belief in common decency. They are tainted with the bigotry and nasty rhetoric of this campaign.
Shame on any woman and or person of actual faith who did not rise up and speak out..........

(10,476 posts)I will express sympathy when they are attacked and victimized, e.g. Gretchen Carlson, as I want no woman to have to endure that in the workplace or anywhere else. But they egged this stuff on for years, denied and deflected when topics such as harassment in the workplace and wolf-whistling on the sidewalk topics came up in their various talking head shows.
I'm glad that they at least have a shred of moral fortitude to reject the short-fingered vulgarian, but their culpability in his creation cannot be ignored.
it's the same mentality many Republicans have. Welfare is TERRIBLE...until they need it. etc

(36,137 posts)We can use judgmental political terms to maintain divisions among the largest democratic force we have -- women. But for how long.
It's not really helpful to them, long term, for us to just sit back and point out how beat up they are. They could use some help.
