Fox News host Sean Hannity doesnt just want President Obama out of the White House come 2017. He wants him out of the country altogether, Politico reports.
Said Hannity: I have an offer for the president. I will charter a plane for you and your family. I will charter it to the country of your choice. You want to go to Canada? Ill pay for you to go to Canada. You want to go to Kenya? Ill pay for you to go to Kenya. Jakarta [in Indonesia], where you went to school back in the day, you can go back there.
Hannity added one condition: You cant come back.

With fewer than 100 days left to serve, President Barack Obamas post-White House career is coming into focus. He will team up with former Attorney General Eric Holder to lead the Democrats in a fight against gerrymandering.
Holder will chair an effort called the National Democratic Redistricting Committee. Its main goal will be to organize in time for the 2020 Census round of redistricting that could consolidate the lopsided advantage the Republicans enjoy, despite being outregistered by Democrats.
Using lawsuits to bust up gerrymandered majorities, the Democrats are gearing up for many battles in state and federal courts.
Obama and Holder plan to pay special attention to state legislatures, judicial elections and ballot initiatives because thats where partisan gerrymandering that impacts the national map begins.

(15,438 posts)so I'm happy I've been able to make you smile.
I've always known that President Obama wouldn't go quietly into the night post-White House. I knew he'd do something to get more Democrats elected to the best of his ability. He was, after all, originally, a community organizer, and cut his teeth in the most difficult neighborhoods - and what the true reason was for him to enter politics.
But I never knew he'd do something as fantastic as this! President Obama is the type of Democrat that had me fall in love with the Democratic Party - a fighter for the greater good.

(3,660 posts)It is, I presume and hope, identifying a group with the intent of making districting fairer and more democratic, as in reflecting the wishes of the population in a democracy.
But it's an easy inference that the name is for an adjunct of the Democratic Party intending to bias districts to favor Democrats in elections.
While fair redistricting for democratic purposes would indeed help Democratic candidates, this group will be both more palatable and more successful if it seeks only the former for its own sake, and is named in a way that cannot be misinterpreted. Elections should be a fair fight. We can win a fair fight. We should seek only a fair fight.

(15,438 posts)POWER and which Party ideology gets to set the trajectory where the country goes moving forward.
If Republicans and Independents want to begin their own redistricting group and effort - which will cost tens of millions since President Obama and AG Holder are going to file lawsuits to challenge the unfair redistricting - then by all means, have at it! But enough of the catering to and coddling of Repubs and so-called Indies.
Have you forgotten that Obama and Holder are Democrats? Why should a Democratic former president and Democratic former AG work for them? When have so-called Independents and Republicans ever worked with Democrats on anything?
Besides, when they come for donations, I don't want my hard-earned Democratic dollars to go to helping cheapskate Republicans and so-called Independents who always seem to appear to vote in favor of Republicans. Sorry.

(3,660 posts)I don't want Democratic Party-biased districts any more than Republican Party-biased ones. People should have the ability to vote for, and get, a government I personally don't want if that's what wins the vote. Anything else is a totalitarian shithole. Districts should be fair, not party-driven.
BlueCaliDem
(15,438 posts)CHALLENGE the unfair redistricting done in 2010 by Republican governors and legislatures, and to educate the American people about voting in midterms and off-years. Can't get any more democratic than that, right?
But this will cost tens of millions of dollars. So that "totalitarian shithole" you're kvetching about has already happened and the NDRC merely seeks to right the skewed ship.
I hope that clears it up for you. If not, then perhaps you need to google National Democratic Redistricting Committee and read what their objectives are yourself.
Democrats have played 'nice' far too long. Time to show some serious teeth if we want to keep our democratic Republic. You should be applauding that, not criticizing it. Sheesh.

(3,660 posts)Why not call it fair redistricting, neutral redistricting, clean redistricting committee or any other synonym. Why call it a word which yes can mean small d democratic but can also mean partisan biased redistricting just in the opposite direction? It's the clumsiest, most easily misunderstood naming since the thankfully abandoned "Brights".
BlueCaliDem
(15,438 posts)most likely still thinking it's best to go along to get along - OR - hoping to make it easier for Republicans and moneyed Republican activists to defeat Democrats again and again. The fact that President Obama and Eric Holder are going to launch this committee and that it appears to make you nervous, is confusing to me.
As for partisanship? Puh-lease. They drew first blood.
You obviously don't know - or choose to ignore - the 2010 operation REDMAP. You seriously need to read up on it.
After nearly ten years of undemocratic Republican gerrymandering of districts, funded by the likes of Koch Bros and Adelson that as a result - even after Democrats got 1.3 million more votes nationwide in 2012, mind you - Republicans retained their choke-hold in the House thanks to REDMAP, you'd think a person on DU would welcome this effort to level the playing field. I'm sorry you don't.
But kudos to President Obama and Eric Holder! They understand that you don't bring a knife to a gunfight and hope to survive.
