What does it mean that the emails were found "on" the laptop

What does "on" the laptop mean? Does it mean they were downloaded and saved in a file? Does it mean they had been read on the laptop through the account and were retrievable only via intensive forensic measures?

These are the kinds of answers Comey should have provided once he decided to open his god damned mouth.

IMHO, most likely she used email software that synced to a server and she didn't really pay much attention to that.

Have you EVER used outlook, or ANY, email client on your computer. Ever heard of pop3 or IMAP?

Just Google it.

These apps download email every time you run them, and do so on a schedule if they are running.

No mystery.

I had AOL software for years, and finally gave up on it in 2014 because it keep crashing.
I liked having an email client because it is easier to manage emails. Now I use webmail.

My kids have used nothing but webmail.

Further, almost no one would use such an app on someone else's computer.

What if he had her password and accessed her email account via his personal laptop... Maybe spying on his wife or just out of curiosity.

A $10 buck program can UN delete almost anything, you don't even if the disk has been formatted or the OS reinstalled

The computer could have been a print server
Cloud accounts could have sinced data
Email clients could have sinced data
Machine on the same net could sinc data

Email clients often only keep x week of mail on the device, the rest gets deleted. That would mean that in many years thousands of emails could accumulate on the disk
