Comeygate Is Looking Worse and Worse - MotherJones

We're into single digits, people. There are only 9 days left until the hellscape of this year's presidential campaign ends. In the meantime, let's play a game! Can you guess who the mystery man is in this story?
<snip>

Meanwhile, in the breaking news department, Comeygate is getting fishier and fishier. It's already unclear why FBI Director James Comey decided to ignite a firestorm over a set of emails that nobody had read yet and quite possibly have nothing to do with Hillary Clinton. It's also unclear why the FBI hasn't yet gotten a warrant to go ahead and read the emails, something that most likely could be done in a few hours. Now there's this:

The FBI agents investigating Hillary Clinton’s use of a private email server knew early this month that messages recovered in a separate probe might be germane to their case, but they waited weeks before briefing the FBI director, according to people familiar with the case....Given that the Clinton email team knew for weeks that it may have cause to resume its work, it is unclear why investigators did not tell Comey sooner.

This is now getting beyond a case of mere poor judgment on Comey's part. If the FBI knew about these messages weeks ago, they could easily have gotten a warrant and begun looking at them. If they were harmless—which I'm willing to bet on—Comey could then have either said nothing, or else made it clear that the emails were nothing new.

Instead, the Bureau sat on this for weeks; failed to get a warrant; and informed Comey only at the very tail end of a presidential campaign, when there wouldn't be enough time to release any exonerating information before Election Day. And if published reports are accurate, Comey went public with this within ten days of an election—something that contravenes longstanding policy at the Department of Justice—because he basically figured he was operating under a threat that it would be leaked with or without him. - MotherJones

Bad judgement or an intentional sword fall to save the dying republican party?

We've got some stuff up our sleeve': Donald Trump's daughter-in-law hints that Republican nominee has an 'October surprise' to drop on Hillary Clinton

Eric Trump's wife Lara Trump, along with his foundation's vice president Lynne Patton, appeared this morning on 'Fox & Friends'

Lara Trump talked about how tough October is in presidential politics, but said the Trump family had gotten closer because of the experience

Donald Trump's daughter-in-law also hinted team Trump may have something damaging to throw at Hillary Clinton in the campaign's last days

'Well, there's still a couple days left in October,' she said, floating the idea that the Trump campaign has an 'October surprise' to use on Clinton

THIS WAS FIVE DAYS BEFORE COMEY'S BOMBSHELL... That means the tRump family and sycophants knew about this WELL IN ADVANCE.

Need to be both exposed publicly and investigated. There is one or more Trump mules in the FBI and based on Harry Reid's letter it sounds like Trump mules = Russian operatives.

They need to clean house in the FBI.

I've asked a few times and no one ever answers. He needs to be asked if the Comey gift to the pukes was what he was referring to and how he knew in advance.

Under his direction the FBI has become a dirty tricks operation filled with promotion seeking Hillary Haters. At best he ignored the agents overreach - at worst he encouraged it. The Justice Dept. needs to fire Comey and clean house at the FBI. He's worse than J Edgar.

Why aren't they looking into the ties between trump and Putin? The dems requested they do this some time ago. This is clearly partisan politics and a cheap shot at that

They are trying to resurrect a nothing burger out of thin air.

We are busy getting out the vote with 25% of votes cast already.

No wonder they are in such a panic, they know they are already losing.

POSTSCRIPT: Still, let's stay clear on something. The behavior of Comey and the FBI is somewhere between clueless and scandalous, but the behavior of the media has been flatly outrageous. Given what we know, there is simply no reason for this to have been a 24/7 cable obsession—or to command the entire top half of the front page of the New York Times. This massive amount of attention has been in the service of literally nothing new. Once again, though, when the press hears the words "email" and "Hillary Clinton" anywhere near each other, they go completely out of their minds.

This is not a new email account, such as Outlook v. Gmail, but another device with access to an email account the FBI already has. So, what does that mean.

That means they already have the complete Inbox to the account. They would not have the Sent email, however, unless somebody replied to the message in which case it would be in the Inbox (they already have). The only thing new they would have here is the Sent email where nobody responded back. That's it. And only if she did not send it to herself so she would have it in her Inbox.

There will be no new Clinton email's to review because of how email works.

This may explain why the FBI didn't go after a search warrant earlier. They knew the odds were very low that anything new would be found that is relevant to the Clinton email case. Now that Comey has come forward with this it forced the FBI to ask for the search warrant. Comey looks like a total fool/tool and needs to resign.

there is major resentment about them be replaced in the Garner Civil Rights case. Justice is about ready to indict NYPD cops who the NY office found in the clear. Apparently there is a buddy buddy relationship here. I'd look for those with a grudge, or wanting to make the Director look bad, besides being in the tank for Trump.
There is an internal war going on within the FBI.

A week ago the Clinton campaign was looking at states like GA, AZ and even TX. The emphasis was on trying to help down ticket candidates in order to give Clinton as much Congressional support as possible.

Now the emphasis is on saving her candidacy.

I'd say that "Comeygate" has accomplished precisely what it set out to do.
