Gov. Scott Walker is locked in a very tight recall race with two potential Democratic challengers, Tom Barrett and Kathleen Falk, according to a new statewide poll of 707 Wisconsin voters by Marquette Law School taken Thursday through Sunday.
Walker leads Barrett 47% to 45% among Wisconsin voters, and leads Falk 49% to 45%. The margin of error is plus or minus 3.8 points.
I dont think you need the poll to know this is going to be a very close race, pollster Charles Franklin said at a Marquette event Tuesday discussing the poll numbers, which will be posted online by Marquette shortly.
Barrett leads Falk 36% to 29% among Democratic primary voters in the survey. Falk is a declared candidate. Barrett will be announcing his plans in the coming days.
More analysis of the poll will be available later today on JSOnline.com and in Wednesday's Journal Sentinel.

(4,267 posts)I will not know what to think. All of the protests, all of the work put into organizing a recall. How can the race be tight?

(16,646 posts)It only takes a minority to force a recall. It takes a majority to actually win the recall.

It has generated national attention and Wisconsinites deserve a great credit for what they have done even if they lose the recall election. So if we want to complain about how bad things are we have every right to do so--because we have earned it.

(33,497 posts)and Barrett the loser got slightly more than a million votes while Walker the victor got 1,128,000 votes. This recall election is not in the bag and never has been. Remember last year six GOP Senators were recalled and Dems only defeated two of them.

(13,570 posts)yet. Let's get a nominee and a full campaign. The polls don't mean a whole lot just yet. Yes, there will be a close race, but
it will be on-the-ground campaigning that will win this and who is ultimately more organized. Plus, we need to see what happens
with the criminal investigation. There are also WI Senate recalls, so even if Walker wins, there's a good chance to take
back the State Senate there. So CHIN UP.
