2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumI know far too many Republicans who have defected to believe Trump is running strong.
I know some dozens of Republicans personally and professionally. Most of them hate Trump as much as I do. Some are just leaving the top of the ballot blank, some are voting Johnson or McMullin, and some are going all the way to Hillary. I don't think a single one abandoned Romney, McCain, or Dubya.
As a result, when I see that TargetSmart data saying that 28% of registered Republicans are defecting, I can believe it to an extent. I'm thinking more like 15% or so, but that seems more in line.

(3,251 posts)This year is an anomaly. The GOP voters are not voting party in the presidential contest the way they have done in the past.

Any state that has a high percentage of Hispanic voters (including Texas) is likely to get a good percentage of Republican votes for Hillary.

(2,056 posts)And keep an eye on Texas...I predict Hillary will win Texas. Almost 25% of eligible voters in Texas are Hispanic and Trump woke the voting beast.

My circle there is maybe 150 people, I know of zero voting for Trump. I know of many voting Hillary which will be the first time try vote Dem. I know many who won't vote.

(21,328 posts)Part of it is that they don't consider themselves Republicans anymore after all of this.
