(40,220 posts)I think they will call it when polls close on the west coast.
Lithos
(26,404 posts)CBS/ABC will be first at 10, followed by CNN and Faux in that order, up to 10-15 minutes later.

(7,637 posts)When the west coast votes come in and seal the deal.
Siwsan
(26,289 posts)The west coast will be done voting and the results should be pouring in. If it isn't called by midnight, the bubbly is going back into the fridge and the Old Overholt will be transitioning from the bar cart.
It seems to me that the 2008 was declared before midnight and the 2012 just after, but I'm getting old and confused so I might be misremembering.

(62 posts)No later than 11:15 EST; as soon as polls Washington, Oregon, and California. It would be amazing, and a landslide, if Hillary has 270 EVs when states in the Central time zone close.
We're stocking up on beer and wine to party for the rest of the week!!
MineralMan
(146,329 posts)CA, OR and WA as soon as the polls close. In all scenarios, that should do it for Hillary. She'll have well over 270 EV at that time with those state's electors, so everyone will call the election.
There will still be states that are too close to call, but it wont matter. She'll be over the top with those three called and the total EV can come the next day.
That's my guess. I plan to shut everything off and go to sleep at 10:05 CST, frankly. That's my normal time to go to sleep, so my schedule won't be interrupted.

(36,926 posts)10:00 is my regular bedtime, but wondering about the additional 5 minutes.
Btw, I think I will stay up until it's called, just this once, lol.

(10,721 posts)Practically speaking, we'll know it's over when Florida or North Carolina or Ohio is called for Clinton. New Hampshire isn't substantial enough, but any one of those other three will do the trick.
Agnosticsherbet
(11,619 posts)Technically, they should not called it before 6 PM Hawaiian Time.

(16,646 posts)Once she hits 270, they have to call it. The only question is how well she does in the East. It could be over by 9 est but only if she does well in Ohio, NC, Fla, etc. Otherwise it starts to move well west waiting for CA, WA, etc. Texas could move things a bit if she were to get that one. But by 11, it should be over.

(921 posts)I think (hope) it will be obvious after 9:00 but they will wait for the West Coast polls to close. I'll be at a meeting, checking my phone for results all evening.
