2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumIt's going to be a long day tomorrow - my first 2 troubleshooting calls already.
Four years ago, I was in the county boiler room. Tomorow I'm an observer at the county Board of Elections & one of two people who interface between the boiler room and the Board of Elections to resolve issues within the county.
I've got my cell phone with data (first time in forever), a brand-spanking-new wi-fi hot spot (so I can update the trouble-shooting database using something with an actual keyboard, and two calls under my belt before I'm on duty tomorrow.
My spouse and sister-in-law are polling place observers for the first time. I have a feeling they're going to skip the boiler room and call me directly, since that's the source of the two inquiries I just answered.
I haven't decided whether to bother becoming a star member to get access here tomorrow - since my day starts at 5:30 AM and won't be over until the last vote in the county is finalized - in the wee hours of the morning. Things will likely have died off here by then - or I may just be too tired to check in.
Have fun tomorrow! As you're celebrating, remember those of us still on duty making sure everyone plays by the rules until the last vote is counted.

(11,949 posts)You obviously enjoy the site and get something out of it. Whether or not you can participate tomorrow, I encourage you to become a star member. Chip in a little for all.
And thank you so much for helping to make our democracy work. You got me beat all to pieces as all I do is vote and type on the internet! I have a feeling many of us are going to have to step it up in the next few years if we want to keep our republic.
Have a great evening.

It's something I evaluate on a regular basis - and at least recently, every time I get ready to donate something comes up to remind me why I struggle with it. My compromise is to run it without ad blockers, so I'm passively contributing by "viewing" the ads.
