Just a day before Pennsylvania joined voters across the country in deciding the next president of the United States, students at Spring-Ford Area High School made their voices heard. During a school wide mock election Monday, students chose Republican candidate Donald Trump as the next leader of the free world.
Social studies classes watched compelling student-made presentations about the four presidential candidates, Trump, Democrat Hillary Clinton, Libertarian Gary Johnson and Green Party candidate Jill Stein, before discussing the options and voting. Students who were undecided when they arrived at the polls could brush-up on some last minute facts about the candidates, or select no vote. Students also made campaign posters and brochures for each candidate.
With 2,188 ballots cast, Trump was declared the winner, receiving 931 votes, or 42.6 percent of the vote. Clinton came in second receiving 767 votes, or 35.1 percent of the vote. Johnson came in third with 201 votes, or 9.2 percent. Coming in fourth was a no vote with 181 students choosing that option, or 8.3 percent of the vote. Lastly, Stein rounded up the remaining 5.4 percent of the vote casts, receiving just 117 votes.

(15,286 posts)Spring-Ford is actually in Montgomery County, which Clinton should win, but it's on the western end of the county.

(9,894 posts)of Montgomery County, I think it is going to be close, but will go Hillary. There has been a significant amount of manufacturing base erosion here, going back some time, not real recent. As well, there is a lot of high tech employment with a significant Asian component. Then there is the largely AA county seat, Norristown. Montgomery County also stretches up into rural Trumpland, but the population is less dense there.

As for Spring Ford, that's my school district although we haven't had any kids in there for some time but in general, it's a very diverse population mainly because the district itself is very big. Yes, there is a large student population from the more affluent areas between Royersford and King of Prussia but there is also a large population from the more working class that live mainly in the Spring City, Royersford and Limerick areas.
But just as the Western part is more rural, the Eastern part borders on Philly and as a concentration of the population, the Eastern part is much more densly populated.

(58,724 posts)That's not really the Alabama part of the state, is it?
the Alabama part of the state. However, I have run into a lot of people who are voting for Trump for economic reasons. I am from that area of Montgomery County (not Spring-Ford exactly) and there is a genuine belief that Trump will stand up for the disenfranchised white guy/girl. To me this is delusional, but that's what they believe.
